In what section do you find "glycerine" at the grocry store? What is it normally used for?

Marybeth...I think you'd find it in the medicine isle. My mom used it before but I can't remember what for. It's clear and comes in a small bottle if I remember right.

Glycerine is used as a sweetener. However, to lower the freezing point of water to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, you’d need to use a 30% glycerin solution. Glycerin is a low-level toxin and has a sweet taste. Ingesting large amounts of glycerin elevates the blood sugar level of a bird, which can be harmful or even fatal, so use it sparingly if at all. A heated water dish is safer. A home-made heater (cookie tin with a light bulb in it) is okay too. Even a strand of little Christmas lights in a flower pot under your water basin will keep the water from freezing, and you don't run the risk of poisoning your chickens.

As always there will be a need for plenty of hands in the kitchen with set up & clean up! It was wonderful last time with all the help!

I am just hoping someone will come up with a center piece idea cause I got nothing! LOL.

I was trying really hard not to say anything else about the processor. But I can't help it.

Look, guys, I know that I'm not special. I know I didn't have enough to justify my own slaughter. I don't think I was unreasonable. He had 3 numbers, all good ones, to call me back... and the only time he ever called was at 3:54pm on Thursday to tell me that they'd just decided not to have a slaughter on Friday (when he said he'd call me back on Wednesday, I knew exactly what was going to happen... there wasn't going to BE a slaughter. He just didn't want to tell me that). He said that he'd call back Monday. Guess who didn't get a phone call? This was definitely not the first time he didn't call back like he said he would.

I'm grateful there's a processor here in OK. I am not grateful for the man who is in charge of that part of it. I am a firm believer that if you do business with people who are shady, you have no right to be surprised if that shady behavior transfers. Unfortunately, I wasn't shady and I was the person who got left holding the bag (and all the expenses) for 28 dead chickens because they started dropping like flies. Good thing they weren't cornish X meat birds, because I'd've lost them all in this debacle.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the guy would just admit that they did me wrong, and apologize for it. However, I'm not in the mood to talk to them again, ever. After buying 20 or 30 chickens from them and giving them to my family members during the first two chicken runs, I will not spend another dime there. They can process for the people they apparently want to process with, and I'll either do it myself or not do it at all.

End of subject for me.

Marybeth...got my curiosity up....it's in the soap isles. After I posted I thought I remembered it was for soap, bubbles, etc. I found this....Walmart Glycerine comes in a brownish glass bottle (4 oz. for $4.08) and it is in the skin care or soap stuff.

its used in cooking to keep icing soft, so i guess its in the baking section, my daughter had an extra bottle, so gave it to me- she ordered it online

edited: i just did a search. says it should be near the jello, apparently there is a non-food glycerin also
