Okies in the BYC The Original

Hi All,

I have two sick chickens this morning, both are bantam teenagers.

They both sit on the ground puffed up, both have one eye that's watery and shut, both shake their heads couple times a minute, and they both have what feels like hard knots in the craw.

I've brought them inside to isolate them, used a dropper to force water into them and also gave each a dropper of poly vitamins without iron.

Does this sound like something anyone here has seen, anyone know what else I should do or give them??

Thanks,

Matt

I have 4 chickens with exact same issues... we had 5 but lost one to the cold now we just brought them into the house since we only have one generator and that is to keep us warm.. I have been using Vet Rx since the ones that are sick are near to be laying girls and most of the antibiotics I have come across read DO NOT give to Chickens that are for Egg laying Consumption...

yes I am the guy on craiglist, i hope that doesnt matter, like I mentioned before Ihave built houses for some of our riches in Ok and no appreciation for the work, I have also built cabinets for the same. however, I come to realize I like animals way more than some people. and with the fall of our economy, it is ok. because I was givin a gift to be builder so I thopught I might give myself a chance to provide a service for what I call real, honest hard working people, who either dont have time to build or just wants some one to do it for them. Plus I enjoy what I do, and I didnt mean I wouldnt ask questions because there is alot to learn everyday. But I want to thank this young lady name Beth for telling me how to find fellow okies in here, man i was lost.
I do know alittle about how to conditon air and getting temps to flow at a constant, I went to a refridgeration school in Az. with the big hopes of walking out of there and making 80,000 a year as promised. After graduating the job counseler told us all that the ac job industry was down and he could offer us a job in Nigeria.....

It seems to help some but not really sure... I give it in the water and rub it around their faces helps them breath a lil easier I think... sorry I missed this earlier... just trying to pop on a few places before I shut off the computer as to use the extra outlet for the generator for something else like heating water in the microwave.. HA HA HA... I ordered a coleman stove online wont get here for another week but hey from what I understand we are expecting some possible snow showers next week anyways... and who really knows when the power will get back on in our neck of the woods any how since we are considered county outside of Elgin.

hi guys- how you all? we were working around the house today and hubby says GRAB THE CAMERA! and off the other side of the creek were the fluffiest biggest coyotes i've seen, i guess the okie version is alot bigger than the california version, but if their coats are any indication, we will be having more snow and ice before this winter is done

as far as sick chickens, i'd put them on a respiratory antibiotic asap- duramycin is what i use, just to be on the safe side. If you have to hold off eating eggs for a bit, thats ok if it saves their life...

ok, offline, i am trying to ration online time...spend way too much time piddlin around on the computer...

Schools are canceled in Moore and Mid-Del, but the college isn't closed... so my sister (who lives in Moore) was freaking out about missing class today.... one of her classes is a 5 credit hour monstrosity that missing a day is about equivalent to missing a week. So I told her to drop her 3 kids off at my house. So the kids in my house currently are 10, 9, 8, and 7 years old... and this house is 700sq foot. Thank goodness J went to work today!

She'll pick them up around 2:30 this afternoon. They've been here since 9am. I'm already exhausted and half crazy.

Good thing that they're relatively good kids!

Wonderful pics--good and bad. I think the pic of the pond and damaged trees belongs in a contest somewhere!

Hope the town house damage wasn't too bad.
