I don't often do this but here is a copy of the Merck Vet manual online. On the sidebar to the left click on poultry and it will expand out. Be prepared to read for many, many days on this section and the sub-sections.
I often use this as a "gold" standard for info posted on the web as a lot of it is incorrect.

Then look up the drug Tiamulin, it was devoloped especially for M.G. infections and will not cause a resistance in humans due to drug residue.

Here is a little over-view about differnt drugs and their uses.

Well, I knew I would catch up today.

Then the boss man walked up to my supervisor and said... 600+ letter mailing has to go out tomorrow. Yeah. Think he could have started on that a week or two ago? Seriously? Because 600+ envelopes aren't going out in the mail tomorrow if I'm the only one working on them.

Use the copy machine on the first one. Of course all 600 will go to the same address but oh well!!

What I love is that there is the Farmer's Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac and they are sometimes similar and sometimes way different. The Old Farmer's Almanac says it is the "original" so I guess it is the one that goes back to Benjamin Franklin.

I think you must be thinking about Poor Richard's Almanac. Ben Franklin had been dead almost 30 years before the Farmer's Almanac started up. I only know this because I love Poor Richard's. It is where we get most of his famous pithy sayings like "Early to bed" and all.

You are correct. For some reason, I think Benjamin Franklin and "Almanac" should go in the same sentence, but it is because of the Benjamin Franklin "quotes" that I think that. Is the Poor Richard's Almanac still around?

hey i checked that out that is awsome and it just gave me 9 million different ways to recycle and reuse plastic containers..........lol

Well, I think the pan I have might have too tall a "lip" for my bantams. I want to get/find/reuse from somewhere, some 3 gal buckets with lids for the bantams, it'll be easier for me to find the trays that those fit in too. However, I'm going to try this one and see how it works.

You can always put a brick next to the pan, so they can be more elevated in relationship to the food, which will make it easier for them to reach down into the pan if necessary.

So how many quail did you hatch and were any of them button quail? One thing about no notes, you don't spend any time stressing that the eggs being past their hatch date.

Do you know what kind of duck you want it to grow up to be? A yellow duck will likely turn white when it loses its feathers so you are going to have a black and white duck when it is grown. Have you seen a picture of what you want so we can figure out the breed?

I don't really think it matters to him.
He just want's it to be black and yellow as a baby. He's such a dork...

The only ducks I have are fawn runner ducks and they aren't laying enough eggs right now to hatch - but they are primarily yellow and tan when they hatch.

You may want to start watching Atwoods for when they start getting ducklings - probably in March.

Ideal Poultry is running a special on ducks of various varieties right now. I would be willing to order 10 runner ducks toward the minimum order of 20 ducks if you can find some others to go in on the order. You would need to look at the pictures on the Ideal poultry website to figure out what kind of ducklings will be yellow and black. It is probably a little early to find any Oklahoma hatched ducklings right now.

Well I may not have much time as the lights are still flickering, we just got our power on at 5:00 am today after 8 day's of going without. I want to thank all of those who called to check in Monty, Q, Bill Bailey, Michael, Jim, Donna, Stimpy. Thanks you all.

It has been a long tough one but we made it and none the worst for ware, We are without any close family nearby so we just hunkered down. Most of you who know me well know that a little major natural disaster could not keep me down or catch me off guard LOL. I was prepared but not prepared for the masses of others who were not, as resuppy was tough. I had 2 23000 BTU Kerosene radiant heaters for heat, plenty of lanterns and lights, and a cook stove, along with a turkey fryer burner just in case. I blocked off one side of the house and we lived in the other, The DW & DD slept in my bed while I slept on the couch an hour on and a hour off watching the heaters and staying vigilant for anything. We ate well and stayed warm, one thing I was totally unprepared for was having a 15 yr old DD bored with no electronic gagets to jack with and talking insesantly LOL.

Anyway the power is on and we had allot of devestation on the power system nearby, hundreds of poles snapped and lines across the roads, they did threaten water issues but it never happened except for very low water presure, we managed at the house better than most I think, just a little frazzeled in the nerves. I was also trying to manage work at the job site without power 12 hours a day. I did manage to save all the meat we had in the deep freeze but my DW is still not totally convinced, I will know for sure when we thaw a large cut of meat. So here is to hoping the volts stay on LOL.

Are you in the city limits? I heard on the news that Lexington is taking care of all the downed trees for citizens, even in backyards.

Wasn't your flagpole destroyed by the Christmas blizzard also?

Glad the fire department was able to help y'all escape your home and that you didn't have any emergency need to do so before they arrived. That would be scary to have the door blocked from the outside.

Al is still without power. He has Cotton Electric and has been "roughing it" with a kerosene heater and lanterns, I believe. Now that BarnSwallow's power has been restored, we are hopeful that he won't be out the 3-4 weeks that was originally estimated.

P&B,

I'm right on the edge of the town limits. They are going to clean up our damaged trees when they get to them.

I talked to Al the other day and he told me about how they are coping. Surely there was some wiggle room in that time of recovery estimate. Hopefully he'll be back here with us way before that.
