Watching the game get started. I like the commercials, although there was one year when I never understood what was being advertised whenever the commercial came on - I think it turned out to be a stockbrokerage. I like to go to the internet after the game and rewatch the commercials I missed.

Robin,

I have light brahma chicks in my grow-out pen. They were hatched December 31, so they're still pretty small. I'm not sure how many are pullets. I can try to figure out the sexes if light is the color you're looking for. I was planning to bring them to POOPS. Let me know if you're interested and I can post some pictures.

Well, I have seen really nice looking ameraucana hens sell as high as $22 at the Blanchard auction .... or maybe it was just one of them that Poultryandbees sold? I sure wouldn't spend $15 for a hatchery chick though

Maybe this person trying to sell these chicks was at the Blanchard auction & then thought they could sell some for an outrageous price.

I think they're hoping someone that doesn't know better will come along & buy them all.

I have a question regarding the CL add is it for real listing each bird at $15 a piece? I get on the hatchery and most have them breeds listed between 1.87-3.22 in less of course they are older than a few days old but I dont justify selling them at 15 if she is trying to recoup expenses unless she is giving them some expensive feed... shees I dont think I spent that much per chick for even a few weeks.. then again who knows the purpose behind the CL listing price

Edit to add: maybe the $15 is for the remaining chicks and was just a typo at listing it for $15 each?

Nope not a typo, ever since the backyard raising of chickens hit the popular press like the WSJ or NYT there has been people taking advantage of the rush to get a few hens. Often selling overpriced or even sick/cull birds.

I hate it, with a passion. Chickens aren't vegetarians. They need animal protiens too. It disgusts me to see stuff like soybean meal, or cottonseed meal, or whatever else kind of plant they try and up the protien levels with, added into the feed. And they advertise it that way! "no animal by-products"

Even the top show breeders will tell you that chickens need some source of animal protien!

Thanks! I do my best for them. About once a week or so I'll give them some high protein dog food (small bites) mixed in with their regular feed, or some catfish food, or cat food, which ever I have around at the time. I also propagate meal worms, and have given meat scraps from time to time. Then of course, they devour any bugs that stray into their pens.
