It should work but you have to get the temp down just a little. I have our's set at 99.5 which is good for all types of eggs.
The way a Sportsman is wired is that if the electronic thermostat goes out there is the wafer unit that will take over so you don't lose a clutch of eggs. The main thermostat is set to 99.5 and the back-up is set at 102 so that by looking at the temp it can be easily seen if the main thermostat is working.
Comparing it to ours I am looking at the washers that are between the case and the thermostat, ours doesn't have those washers so I am guessing it was changed over at some point to an electronic unit. The early 1502 had two wafer switches in them as the one my MIL has.
