Ms. Betsy Have you concidered getting some goats to help control the growth on your acreage? Pgymy goats aren't very expensive and are great pets and easy to care for.And if you get just nannys they won't have any odor either.

So was anyone shot at the mall shooting?Hasn't made the news back here yet.

Everyone should be getting home from the sales soon. I went to one today. Sold some birds but didn't bring anything home.At least it opened up some pen space. It was beautiful here today. Wored on the garden getting it ready to plant(yes I'm late!lol). Pulled more weeds out of the flower beds. The chickens sure have fun scratching thru all the weeds.

Hey Mr. Teach Did you get your ground level raised good and high? Now it it turn off dry and you'll wonder why you did it!lol.
Got a pair of archangels hatced ot! Hen is white wing and male is black wing. Can't tell squabs colors yet. One of the pouters is solid white. I bid on those 9 brunners on eggbid last week. Then at the last they shot up clean thru the roof. To rich for my blood!

I got the important parts above sea level...will work on the rest slowly. I need to get a few seperation pens built for different breeds. I went and picked up some stuff to do it with.

I am kinda glad i don't have a closer place to auction for birds at...I might have had to go buy a bunch today just to tick my wife off!

HeHee! Big 10-4 on ticking the wife off! why do they always think you have enough. Looks like they would understand when they have thirty pair of shoes in the closet!Theres always room for more. Besides you can't "be in the business" if you don't keep enough extra stock to trade and sell on!Had a dear old friend that I used to trade and sell with. She always said"Well I didn't make any money on em but at least I'm "in the business"." Thats the way I am .not making anything but in the business.!lol

Well today I picked up some dark Asil pullets at Atwoods and last week they had bb red Malay Pullets, both in standard.

Perfectly timed with the little fuzz butts that I have hatching out so they can share brooder space. Even though she loves our birds I got "the look" from the wife. LOL

These I am hatching are mutts but very cute ones at that. I have one bantam Asil hen in the pen, two of my older bantam NN hens and a standard red NN hen that lays green eggs. One of the babies that popped out of the green eggs is feather-footed and another has a slight showing of muffs. But all are showing no signs of a comb or wattles. They are with a spare bantam Asil rooster.

I will be popping in and out for the next few days, I am trying to find another job as where I am working it is incredibly slow right now. That is the main reason that I have not been on very much. At my age change doesn't come easy.

Evening NN, Sorry about the job,my wife is in the same boat. Like you said age makes starting over a big challenge. Sure disrupts things just when they start going right. Lucky you on the asils and malays. I wish our TSc would get something rare like that.
If you had asils and nn in the pen where did the feathered legs come from? Cochin in the woodpile!lol
Sorry to leave just as you get here but gotta turn in. ^ am comes early at "our" age also. Take care, glad to have you back even if just for a while.
I turn the helm over to you....

when hubby retired out of the navy after 23 years in, he went back to school, got a teaching degree, and now with the economy stuff- no jobs... part of it is age discrimination i am sure of- so the thought that come to ind is have you thought of going back to school? not for teching obviously- but you can get lots of extra income doing that depending on scholarships and stuff like that...

Yes, we have considered it, and I've been sorely tempted. However, in addition to the weedy stuff, we also have a large variety of ornamental plantings, including lots of named varieties of hostas, irises, and daylilies, which would be luscious salad for goats. Our fences probably aren't tall enough to keep goats in. If we were 10 years younger, I'm sure we'd have them. Vashi would like them too. But I'd have to build the goat shed, and I have enough trouble keeping up with the building I need to do for the chickens. Pygmi goats are sooooo cute.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've even thought about renting one and tethering it in different spots. We have LOTS of poison ivy, and I understand goats will eat it too.

hmmm... i need to learn more about those pygmies- might be a consideration as i watch the grass get longer and longer! what kind of shelter do they need?

yes- 6 people were shot, one died, apparently gang related... i remember my daughter talking about that area before she moved to tulsa, and the 'gang bangers'- she had a low opinion of the gang type folk here- she was raised in San Diego- where its a different type gangs- hate to see it coming here.... so senseless
