I thought baout bringing the brooder to POOPS but then I put birds in it...and well...it is so much better than my horse trough! At this point i need another sportsman! I just need to wait another cople days and all will be good...I am just not that paitent!

Just a reminder for the Okies who want to be bobwhite quail owners - if you are raising bobwhites, you need to get either a commercial or a hobby breeder's license from the Department of Wildlife in order to have them on your premises.

Edited to add: Sorry Shavon, I didn't read your post that acknowledged you need to get permits before I posted

We have the same rules here in Texas, but it's inexpensive and easy to obtain I got mine via the mail in about a week. However the commercial license is very expensive and I won't be getting that one.

Big Okie,

Nice coop.....I want to build something, but I have to make it "fer sur" definitely snake proof! Do you have a problem with snakes going through 1" poultry wire? Hardware cloth costs a lot!!!! but a snake got my babies last year...I'm still cringing over it....don't ever want that to happen again. Still planning "something".

sjarvis-TY, but I guess no need. I double checked and those are the only 2 with an indoor pool. The America's BV has too sketchy of a rep. We don't really ever go anywhere other than Grandma's, so I want this to be enjoyable.

Grace-I did suggest guineas as well, but they're pretty firm on peacocks for the moment. I'm sure there was a reason, but sometimes I don't follow them too well. They've got some kind of game plan going and I'm just kind of along for the ride helping as I can. I also have to check with my neighbor who works at hazardous waste disposal to be on the lookout for really awful outdoor paint. The brighter the better. They're going to paint my fence.

Betsy-I was quite impressed with their organization, but I wasn't sure how really big they were. If she isn't working with them already, I would highly recommend it. Especially with the numbers out ranking OK so high as being food poor. Politicians don't like to look bad. Couple of chickens and a global bucket garden are cheap and easy enough for anyone to do and could really improve those numbers. Between our chickens and garden, I don't have to worry about whether there will be food or not no matter the economy.

Don't even know what to say about you manly men. Married to one myself. It's been long enough now I try to let be so long as there's no blood left on the sheets and towels.

Geez bigokie. Did you have to remind me about all the new coops and pens I'm supposed to be working on and how inept I am at it. Like Al scaring me to death when I was just starting to get comfortable using that darn saw wasn't enough.

Hello Sooner. How is life for you today. Better I hope. Have you got over being tired.
I am not sore anymore but I am still tired.
I ahve been trying to figure out chick stuff.
I want to hatch some more but I can't because we are going on a mini vacation at the end of the month and I can't have them hatching out before I get back.
Plus I am kind of afraid of having the incubator running while we are gone in case something goes wrong.

One inch poultry wire won't keep a snake out. Hardware cloth is the best.

Heifer International is a worldwide organization that has been in existence since, I believe, 1949. They have offices all over the world, so I'd say they're a pretty big organization. Their headquarters will host a wide variety of events; from family reunions, to small seminars, etc. Their facilities are quite nice and set in a beautiful wooded area. The have many different sizes of lodges, from bare minimum facilities to quite complete. They also have a large dining facility, where they serve meals primarily from animals and vegetables raised on site--organically. Their exhibits teach sustainability, inlcluding what to do with waste materials; use them for fertilizer or convert them to gas for cooking. Hugely interesting place! Families that are provided with animals go through a two-year process, from screening for need and ability to care for the animals, to being taught to build housing, to care for the animals, then are required to pass the first-born on to another family. Then then teach that family to care for the animals.

Thanks,...I pretty much knew that. I just didn't want to put out the money. I will have to do it anyway. NO MORE SNAKES!!

Morning Okies ! Sounds like POOPS was another
big success. That's way cool that it's on the
BYC Headlines Announcements. Teach, I don't
care what anyone says.......pink is definitely
your color.........

Am soooo glad I finally got to meet Wayne and
Brenda. We had a little mini-picnic and visit
Monday evening. We, Sooner and Madison,
and they had a little chicken swap going on
here in the driveway....LOL We gotta find
a Director of Nursing position over here
for Brenda and get those folks back to
Oklahoma where they belong !!!!

Kronk - Hairy man says, "Good job talking
to Sky Gods and stopping tears last weekend.
But, how about talking to them again and
asking for some sky tears over caves in
NE OK? "

Al - TAKE CARE OF THAT HAND !!!!! A new blade
is the most dangerous when it comes to
infection. MEN ??????????.......... I can
always tell when Bill comes in and just
smiles and tries to make it to the bathroom
without me seeing any blood.................
His Mom raised him telling him, "Billy J. ,
if you hurt yourself again....I'm gonna
whip you !!! " Bill said to tell you, he's
got an extra right hand in the dresser
drawer if you wanta hang it on your
tool belt........... But, figure this was your
left.

Have a good (safe) one !
