To check for Gape Worm just look down the throat with a flashlight. If you see red string-like things in the throat that is Gape Worm. The classic symptoms is that a bird will streach out it's neck and do a lot of head tossing like something is stuck there. Ivermectin is the drug of choice for that.

P&B told you right about the Tylan and LS-50. Now if you treat with Tylan do two shots a day for 7 days. They should improve greatly in about two days and not show sumptoms after about four days but run the full course.

If it is something other then just a simple resp. infection the bird will relapse in about two weeks after treatment stops and there needs to be a different course of action taken.

I stopped feeding them corn and scratch and started mixing thier
laying pellets with 12% Horse and mule sweet feed. They love me for that!

Peaches

Good morning all!

Peaches - you and Doc and Hotdog are in my prayers for a safe tour for Doc and for your family while he's gone. He leaves the 10th, is that right?

bfrancis! Are you running a snake Ark at your place? They seem to be showing up two-by-two! Yikes.

FunChick - sorry about your flock illnesses

I heard a couple of my chickens gargling a few weeks ago, and thanks to nnbreeder's Flock Health sheet, I started the Tylan-50 shots on all the flock and by the second day everyone was better - I hope you have good luck treating yours for whatever is ailing them! Les, you are a Prince - thank you!

So happy to hear that Stimpy is doing well - thanks for the update, Al.

Lynn - glad to hear your health is better - you are obviously back to your hardcore chicken tradin' ways!

Faerie - in case you see this - I was at first a little concerned about my big cat stalking the little RIRs, but now those pullets are chasing that cat all over the yard, so they are stalking him. They are really funny.

Hey Sooner - how's the hives? (Hope you've already had chicken pox as a kid!)

Hey ya City!! My chickens chase my cat too!

Got over the hives & never figured out what set them off. I was misserable for a couple of days but all is good now! LOL @ chicken pox, I did have them as a child but what I have now is far worse! I got the chicken flu, makes you collect any & all chickens.

Good Morning All,

Sounds like bfrancis is running a snake farm

BigOkie or GreyBear, I forget which one of you it was that talked about a Muscovy Duck market... Well anyway, do you know of a Pekin Duck market? I'm getting over run with those white guys! Right now the youngest ones I have are 6 weeks and the oldest are a year and a half, but I have more due to hatch this weekend.
Thanks

Thats great funchick! I know it makes my day go by faster & more pleasantly!

We picked corn last night so my chickens love me! I have one that I call crocked toe that is my best friend without treats that has now taken to flying on any part of my body, mostly my head when I walk in the pen.

Now THAT is a great visual!

I love the sweet chickens that like people. I have a hen that follows me around in the barn when I pick up the fly swatter...she knows that if they fall or get stuck on the swatter that she will get to eat them. I think maybe some chickens aren't as dumb as some people say they are!

Hello all YALL Okies,

My last OFFICIAL day of work here at Ft Sill. HotDog came to work with me and is already to "Let's go home."

Once "in-country" I will see if I can get on-line with BYC, "no promises other than try." I will miss the everyday chit-chat
with all our BYC friends and family.

One of the facets about the BYC community that so many don't realize is how much we touch each others lives. From someone
not feeling well, to sick birds, remedies, the banter between friends, and most of all the prayers. A tight knit group feels for each
other more so than most would imagine.

The 'largest' small group in the world is the military. Less than 1% of the US populace is in the military. We, as the military family,
pray with one another, cry with each other but stand fast with everyone and fight for all. We don't do it for the praise and alcolades
some might think. We are brothers and sisters in-arms fighting for a common goal, peace. A Soldier doesn't pray for war but peace.

During my absence from my family I look to each of you to help with our struggle and that is the family left behind to cry and worry
about the return of loved ones. Please lift Renia and Montana in your prayers. A Soldier's battle is to return safely. A families' struggle
is with the everyday worry that the Soldier has lost his battle. Although this is not my first combat tour, it is Renia's first combat tour.
She will endure more heartache and worry than most will ever know. Although she is not alone with this struggle within the Army, she
will struggle with this alone with her heart and mind. That is where your prayers will help to sustain her in her time of worry. So please,
please, prayer for and with her. Mere words can not express my gratitude to our friends the support you render.

For those that I didn't have a chance to say "See Ya", May the Lord bless you. For my friends that I did or will get that opportunity,
May the Lord keep you in His care.

For my wife and son, I love you and promise to do everything I can to return safely. I love both of you with all that I am.

As Always,

J. Doc Holloway
