Here's someone with honey bees they want removed from their property. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/grd/1848635132.html

I
wonder if the Magic Poultry Van is home yet from the treasures purchased in Fletcher today ... surely she could get some wild honey bees in their too

Thank you Maribeth for letting us buy those cute ducks. They've already escaped the vegetable garden so I put them in a run with some tom turkeys ... the toms are all in love with the ducks. They are following the ducks around and dancing & strutting for them. It's funny to watch.

Well, got to run now. Gerald is taking me to Perry's in OKC for a late dinner. Thank goodness they are open 24 hours. They have great home made rolls and cinnamon rolls!

Monty say you put a BG rooster over some NN hens. As you know some will hatch NN and some will have feathered necks. This is where it gets cool, The regular chicks will carry the traits of the BGs and it will be like getting two breeds out of the same hen.

I have never seen the adult size of the hens increase in making out crosses but the roosters will increase in size. We have had NN roosters in the past that would weigh up to 15 pounds.

The feather neck hens from an out cross with BG will be much larger then their NN counterparts are.

Love that henNN! And look at the neck on that chick in the back! And they have those neat little black skull caps on! Great pic. That ought to warm any nn lovers heart!

Well the pool pump did burn out but the neighbor had an extra one so he's letting me use it till I can replace mine. Good neighbors are great!
Boy its nice to see so many new people signing in. Now if we can just get all the already known ones to start chatting agin this thread will really stack up the pages!
Peaches,Al,Stimp,Sooner and any one else I missed ,we will put you and yours on the prayer list .

I didn't know that les, thanks.
Is that the same with any you cross them with. Will the non NN's alwys carry the genes of the other breed?

The magic poultry van has transported many a honey bee - both as captured swarms and as new hives. Some screen across the entrance to the hive (and the lid to the hive duct taped onto the body and the bottom of the hive or in a cardboard box with small holes for ventilation keep them mostly contained and the ones that are loose tend to stay in the back of the van with their sisters.

Thank you for buying the ducks. Sorry they have already escaped the garden. I suspect that if you let at least some of them free range tomorrow they will gravitate toward any and all bugs on your property. I can imagine the turkeys following the ducks around. I am surprised the ducks aren't following the turkeys - seems like ducks will follow just about anything.

That is a really cool and easy to make chick pen. I sure am not going to pay $5+ for instructions though, since I figured out exactly what I need by looking at the picture for 3 minutes (Had to count the corners and pieces of pvc you would need. There are a few connectors that maybe hard to find but a plumbing store would probably have them. The only thing is you would need to have several hatches to be able to gain access to all the areas because chickens maybe stupid but they have an uncanny knack of knowing where to go so you can not reach them.

Oh yes, I definietly wouldn't buy the plans...I was posting it for the sheer purpose of idea stealing! Vern and I have never needed plans for things like that, we just need a few decent pics and we are good to go! I too would put in more access hatches to make it easier to feed, water and catch 'em if needed. I just thought it looked like a good size and PVC is so inexpensive and easy to work with.

You have found a wonderful group of people who live in Oklahoma or who wish they lived in Oklahoma
smile.png

So, how long have you been raising turken chickens and do you have various colors or are they mostly one color?

I tried to "save" Peaches from buying an absolutely gorgeous NN rooster this evening. He had saddle feathers that looked like the genetically modified chickens that are being bred for their feathers that are popular with fly fishermen.

She was determined not to allow him to sell for cheap however and I really didn't "need" him, so I quit bidding.

nnbreeder has convinced several folks that turkens are wonderful egg layers year round and that they do fine in this Oklahoma heat. I have nn pullets coming this week from a hatchery and blue nn roosters coming from Monty. I will let y'all know next year whether I like them as a laying flock for the brown eggs. They are bound to be better than my current flock that is really slacking in the egg laying department in this heat.

Well darn didnt get my project finished heck we got most of it done But gonna have to finish it all tomorrow. Its so confusing I am using an old fence that was built to hold plants Kinda like a gazebo or something but its Just So hard to stay on track with so much going on in this heat.
Water ground, Give frozen treats, Drop frozen milk jugs, Build Broiler cage, Build Breeding Coop Predator Proof all the building Bottoms. (Previous Farmer built these old buildings Up on Blocks). Water and groom the garden, Check chicks for pasting butt's, Load 1000 lbs of feed twice. Build feeders and waterers for 2 pens. Fill swimming pools and dig 3 foot post holes for fenceing, (stockade) Change water and feed Re arrange flock to new homes. Spray the ditches for weeds, Mow the 8 foot Johnson grass, and All of this while Trying not to keel over. lol I used an Ice chest filled with cold water kept it in the yard and took bird baths all day, I wish I wasn't wet and had a camera. Talk about stink eye from the chickens!!!! Good night got to get back at it 6 am. Be good Okies.
