My friend why do you think there is such a movement for the backyard chickens? People are finally getting tired of not knowing where their food comes from. Or maybe they are just finding out where their food does come from.

I figure that first egg of spring has cost me hundreds of dollars to produce after keeping the girls through winter and the extra time involved with breaking ice and all of the other fun things that has to be done.

So today I woke up and wanted to do some farm clean up I gathered a few things to see what I could come up with. I found an old trashcan lid to a 10 gallon trash can by the burn pit. I found A old Part of a plastic in table. In the abandoned house next door. (on our farm lol) Grabbed 2 5 gallon buckets Cut me some nice quarter circles out of the base of one bucket about every 2 inches. Placed it into the lid and bolted it up. In the other bucket I drilled a small Hole Using a 1/2 bit at the base of the lid just under where the lid snaps in place. I used the table top Upside down as a waterer.

Next i took some 3/4 inch pvc pipes ans t post and built myself a broiler pen.

The reason for the Long extentions is so I can 1. stake them down and 2. Put electric wire to the corners and sides using metal poles to run the side lenght.
I took a Old sain net i use to use to gather my fishing bait and layed that attop the hardware cloth I placed using zip ties. This acts as a net if Ariel pretators try to hit the cage there talons get wrapped in it and its not tied down so they get all tangled up in it. I then took a tarp and Placed it on to create some shade for the birds.
Then I took some old pieces of floor railing, and built me a 4x2 lid and stapled it with hardware cloth.

I used zip ties to fasten the access door on. And there you have it Recycled Farming.

More on my mission to make the world a better place. Pick it up and use it for something don't let trash and junk just pile up it creates Homes for critters and that equals bad news. You okies have a good day I am off to the yard to recycle more.

Been out in it since this morning, taking a lot of breaks though, I'm clearing an area in the trees for a new coop or three :) and opening up the underbrush so I can add more hutches for the rabbits I'm taking pic's as I go so I'll post before and after shots of the project.

I put up a set if misters over the area where my rabbits are and it sure makes a difference but I'm thinking it is going to make the food most and that will cause mold so I may need to rethink that one..

It does give me a cooler place to hide from the heat while I'm working though LOL

we did our bit too, we had an old stereo cabinet, with a broken turntable etc, took all the inards out, and walah! a perfect nest box for the girls, will take pics and post it- the girls wasted no time to investigate and pick their favorite spot, which is apparently the lower left slot...!

then had to come in cause of the heat....sigh

Ok, when I read Sooner's reply to Michael I thought she was talking about the Man and Woman vs Wild show not pig bomb.
Kinda threw me for a second. Anyway I made myself laugh.

I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't for sure which way Sooner was going with that one!lol

Just got back from the local auction. Bought 8 Tennessee red quail. Not for sure on sexes, they may be cross with regular bobwhites because they are all mared differently. Will have to do some reading up on them.

Well gotta go bug my handyman neighbor. I think I may have burned up the pool pump!

Well Gerald was happy because we came home with money and only bought 6 muscovy ducks from Maribeth!!!!

I was hoping there would be more people at the auction, but it was so terribly hot today. It was a very nice auction though. You really should go to it sometime.

Glad you found us. Beth will get you on the list i am sure.
Jump in and tell about yourself and what birds you like.
Turkens or NN's are popular with some of us just like Carla said.
I have some, I used to not like them but after getting them, they are some of my favorites.
I like the blue ones but any color is good.

Don't be a stranger.

I have been wanting to go for a long time but it hasn't worked out for me to go yet. I hope to soon though.
