I don't usually bother the red wasps that live on my porch since they have been helping me in my war against the webworms growing in some of my trees. Normally we just agree to leave each other alone. Unfortunately, some of them have found a hole in my upstairs dormer to crawl into and have apparently built a nest between the siding and the inside wall. I'm going to have to drag a ladder up onto the deck, crawl up the roof, spray them and plug the hole without getting killed in the process. Totally not looking forward to it.

Wow! I hope you get over the reactions soon! Two people in my family are seriously allergic to Bactrim, and one more is very allergic to benedryl. So with witnessing three hospital visits and various shots, I know how scary that stuff can be!

Hey Monty how much does he want for a few of them ??? Lynn

I'll check and see. I think his prices vary depending on demand.
He hatches weekly and tries to move everything out in a week's time.

Good mid day folks! I need to check around for some wasp nest too.
Very humid today but the showers seem to have went around us. I got the yard mowed and weedeated again.
Fed and watered the birds and found another hen has hatched. I need to make a rooster cull again! Seem to have a lot of male chicks this year. Also am going to have to start separating the young ones by size.,the bigger ones are over running the younger onesa and scratching all the food out and wasteing it. Going to have to make some coops I guess. I'd like several all just alike so it would look good in the yard. I like the ones Grace's Dad is making. Hey Mr. Dad, where are you going to put the nest boxes on those?

Well I have the water heating and am going to can some tomatoes. Piocked 5 quarts of blackberries last night. Have frozen about 10-15 quarts so far. Was wondering if they would make good freezer jam. Has anyone tried that. I worry abot the seeds being so bad. Thats the only problem the tame berries have big seeds and lots of them. Any ideals for using the berries would be appreciated. Except jelly which I like but can't make for some reason. It never ever jells. Other people have tried too,I think its the berries.

I don't know what kind of Marans you're looking for, but don't forget that Poco Pollo has them, too.

Our plan is just to use them as grow out pens - for chicks to live in when they are too old for brooders, but too young to be with the adult birds.

Okay people, I am just sick about something that just happened next door at my renter neighbors' place. Early this morning while I was out in the garden I heard some guys in their backyard. When I came back to go inside, I saw that they'd chained (yet another) pit bull in their backyard. This dog was whining and trying to jump over the fence, which it finally managed to accomplish. I watched it run back and forth along the fence on the chain for a bit to make sure it couldn't get loose and come get my chickens, then I went inside. Several times this morning I went out to check the birds, for eggs, let my dog out, etc. and I noticed that it had jumped back inside their backyard and that its chain was now very short, although it could still stand/sit and wasn't choking.

About an hour ago I saw it HANGING on the inside of the fence. I immediately went over and knocked on the front door and told the kid (20-ish) that answered that there was a dog hanging in the backyard. A couple of people came out the back door and was looking at the OTHER dog that's been chained outside the fence for months, and I said "no - not her - THAT DOG" and pointed at the hanging dog. The lady said "I don't know who's dog that is - I'll check downstairs" and went into the door to the basement apartment. Nothing happened for another 20 minutes, then I finally saw a guy go over and start messing with the chain, the dog still hanging. I didn't stand there and watch because I didn't want to know, but I guess the dog is dead, since I saw another guy getting into a car holding a dog collar.

Anyway, sorry for the long story. That just makes me sad/mad - and to me it says a lot about the people living there. Ick.
