I would be sick too City, that is so sad that they just put the dog out there & don't bother to check on it or anything! It is so hot out now that we check ours through out the day & change their swimming water so they can cool off. My dogs are use to being outside but when I put in fresh water they go right for it. I'm sorry you had to see that today.

Wayne I hear ya on too many & too many sizes! I have got to do something soon although I lost 3 this weekend while I was gone, I have no idea if it was the heat or what considering I wasn't home.

Amazing people in this World. Theres a bright side to every sad story. The Dog didn't have to suffer on a chain and have to risk being tossed Into a dog fight, Living a miserable life as a back yard fighting dog, Or cruelty none the less. I was a Professional Pitbull breeder for 13 years threw UKC AADR and ADBA Once I really realized where the majority of my dogs were being marketed and a Change in life I quickly gave up thet buisness. I am sorry you had to go threw this, But the chickens are safer and the Dog is probably happier. (All Dogs go to heaven)

That is where I would have been calling Animal Control.... I hate seeing people be stupid and I hate even more those that are good owners get in trouble for nothing... but to clearly see that a preventable death could have happened if they had just tethered the poor thing properly ( we used a harness on ours)...

We just had drama here in Elgin... left to take the baby for a Dr visit at 10am saw a couple cop cars at the local bank... come back 2 hours later from lawton to see they yellow taped off the road and there was ambulance, cop fire ect... come to find out there was a shooting in the bank parking lot... quite possibly it was not a robbery but could have been a murder suicide of two people that I know briefly through business.... Either way of the situation its still a sad sad situation that is shaking up several people that I know who are close to the Victims...

On to chicken news: I am only typing this because Aleisha is distraught and very saddened today as our beloved Bantam hen "Chatter Box" passed away in her arms after what appeared she was having a hard time breathing. We got chatter box along with a few others from the Fall Poops... Monty was the kind gent that gave Aleisha quite a few of the chicks after she won in the kids raffle... he was also the one who started us off on our first NN .... ha ha. We had named her chatter box after it was apparant this lil chick didnt like to be alone and she would chirp chirp chirp until someone would hold her and then she would sleep in your hands. As she got bigger (or at least midget size big) her and Little Roo(our Bantam White Roo) would follow us in the yard and "talk" to us. Brooklynn was upset because she loved to go pick her up and put her in the garden for me that is how tame Chatterbox was.... I try not to come across with my kids like I have an emotional level of a teaspoon especially when I liked her too but some one has to be strong for the kids .... right?!

Here is a pic of her when she was just a wee lil puff ball using the fake roo to help comfort her

Rest In Peace My Little Friend....

Wow today has been uber busy here...I had 30 inpatients alone...I could barely keep reading posts!

Les--tell Teva I said HBD too! Cool pix of the chickens at the zoo--I didn't even know they had chickens there!

Michael D.--that bird is cute that was helping himself to your sandwich!

Peaches--hang in there girl! We are all praying for you and your family!

Beth--good job on canning the peaches...we had a good crop ourselves and have been enjoying it canned and frozen as well. That is hot, sweaty work! Sorry too that you had to witness animal mistreatment...it is an awful feeling...

Betsy--Get well soon...what an awful experience...

Elwood--I appreciated your flambe' wasp story! I bet the chickens liked them roasted!

Muesky--anything that you can do to make shade over the top of your coops will help. We just put tarps up on the sides of our coop, like awnings, and it helped a WHOLE bunch. I am trying to give my hens the best advantage that I can...poor hot girls! I also forgot to say that I think that your idea on how to at least get $ back by selling rare or unusuial birds that are in demand will be a fun venture, but I would only hope to basically pay for some of the feed...anything else you earn with the birds is a bonus! It could work, especially if you sell them during times of the year they will be more in demand!

BarnSwallow--sorry to hear that about the bank tragedy...and poor ChatterBox! I remember when you posted that picture of her next to that little stuffed rooster..I laughed until I cried it was so hilarious! Awwww...RIP ChatterBox...

Grace's Dad--nifty grow-out pen...Grace you lucky girl!

OK, I am sorry if I missed anyone! Back to work for me!

FunChick! Dang that job and the time it takes away from you reading BYC!

Sorry you're bored, Teach - here's a funny for you:

A 54 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the
hospital.

While on the operating table she had a near death experience.
Seeing God she asked "Is my time up?" God said, "No, you have
another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live."

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and
have a face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck. She
even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten
her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she
might as well make the most of it. After her last operation, she was
released from the hospital.

While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an
ambulance.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I
had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path
of the ambulance?"

God replied: "Shoot! I didn't recognize you."
