I'm wondering if it should be left unwrapped for a time to let the wound breathe some. We put a large patch type bandaid around the area, then put the splints and wrapped it up. I was cleaning it with peroxide, alcohol, scarlet oil, and using a soft toothbrush. Then, we put the antibacterial ointment on it before the bandaid went on.

i put neosporin on it and am letting it air out some, he really is a friendly guy- and talks to you- so far he eats well and drinks the water with the antibiotics in it, so will keep ya posted-

Betsy - Thanks for letting me visit. The blue keets are snug in the barn brooder, jumping off the feeder last time I looked in. I think they will do just fine. I'll set the eggs tomorrow. I want to let them rest from the drive back to Haskell. Your artwork is wonderful. Thanks again for sharing it with me.

Lynn - My Ameraucanas girls are already missing the Roo you took home with you today. I moved his girls in with my all white Amer. Roo, so he's happy, but the girls keep standing by the gate, waiting for "their" man to come back.

To The Blanchard Auction Crowd: Sorry I'm missing it tonight. By the time I got home and got the keets settled, it was already past noon. I was exhausted from the drive to Keystone and the heat, and I couldn't imagine driving for two more hours just to get down to Blanchard. DH is working in Florida, and he suggested I put all my extra birds on Craig's List this week and see how many buyers I can get that way. Fletcher is an hour farther away for me, so that's going to have to stay on my "wish list" rather than my "to do" list.

I'd really like to go up Friday night to the Afton Poultry Swap, set up, visit, camp overnight, and sell birds all day on Saturday (August 14th). If anyone thinks this sounds like fun, put it on your calendar. School will have just started, and the weather should be pretty good, and I bet if we got there at about the same time we could all get spaces close together. I think spots on the hill are $6, and the cheap seats are $2, so it wouldn't be too expensive. If there are any Afton regulars out there, post some info. so we'll know the best spots and best time to get out there.

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Lynn, Dakota, Heather, and Coral today. It's great to get to know such nice people better. As always, I'm impressed with "our" youngsters! Apologies again, Coral, for not being able to see you off properly. Just couldn't go any farther. Went right to bed for three hours and feel better, but am now done in for the day. Day started at 5:30 a.m., but I got a lott done that I needed to. I'm very happy with the homes all the keets went to. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Ok Okies, I have worked myself into the ground today & found time to have a nice dinner out with my DH & decorate for VBS.

I need advice!! I have a scalped chick. Somehow it go in with the bigger one's while I was gone, Maddie found it & there isn't enough skin to put back together! I have it in a cage in the house so flies can't get on it but I am afraid to touch it. The entire head is raw meat! Any idea's??

I have a rooster like that, I just kept him where the flies couldn't get to him and kept putting neosporin on his head, the skin is slowly growing back to close the wound.

BluKote and time should take care of it. Or you can go the Neosporin route but it is more able to get things like bedding stuck to it.

I have a cage & have it in the kitchen floor because that's the only place with out flies. I don't think new skin would work, I am talking this chickens is scalped, nothing but raw meat. New skin is like a super glue that puts skin back together right?? There is no skin to put together.

Well if he has that raptor look I wouldn't worry about him trying to flog you, but they do sometimes give little love bites!

Robin do you have any Vet Wrap? works really well on things like that and will stick to itself like velcro does. Nice open mesh to it too.

If the wound is clean there should really be no need for antibiotics, just watch the leg for heat which will be the first sign of infection setting in.
