Sounds like a party going to be happening up there...

I will be staying home as usual... thought about going and following peaches and the gang with my gang but decided I am going to re paint my living room.. I think I need the high with all the down I have been ... LOL

ha ha... besides

I dont want to risk bringing home birds I am currently craving right now... or any more goats.... Jason would shoot me if I did especially since he wont be back home until Thursday(been gone since Tues) and I promised the Good Lord I would be a good wife from now on...

You all have fun though sure sounds to be a blast!

Any ideas as to where a person might be able to find large rolls of chicken wire and/or hardware cloth that are reasonable....Atwoods has small rolls and they are expensive...to expensive for what I am going to have to do to revamp this run of mine. Not to mention I am having to completely redo the coop so any help on this would be appreciated. I live in Goldsby by the way...just south of Norman.

Thanks
Dee

Hardware cloth always seems high $$, and chicken wire is right behind it LOL, personaly I just suck it up close my eyes and buy it, still hurts though. I haven't found anyplace to get it reasonably priced or even find somebody who has some extra. good luck in your search.

is prevical jr , a chick from the roo i got from you ? he sure is a looker

Hey, Donnie!

Yes. Percival Jr. is one of the angry roo's chicks. Percival Jr. snuggles like a puppy, though, so I doubt I'll ever have to look for another owner for him. He's going to be at least as big as his pappa. Probably bigger. The girls already fight over who gets to roost next to him. I hope to have a large Speckled Sussex harem for him by February.

Thanks Al for trying! I'm so frustrated at this point....finally got my new flock of babies in yesterday and still have so much left to revamp. This run started out looking like it would be pretty safe but since this is my 4th flock it wasn't at all!! So I'm looking at several ideas...1. electric fence 2. putting dig barrier down. 3. Putting more hardware cloth or chicken wire higher up the run over the welded wire already there 4. the list is endless....sigh.

Yes it sure is a big chore trying to keep them safe, I thought I was good to go but every 3 or 4 yrs I get a very smart and hungry momma coon that will always find the smallest place to get in and tear up my whole operation. It is an ongoing thing the best way I have found is to just look around every week or so and keep a sharp eye out for any weak spot's, after a rain I also look for tracks in the mud to see who is staking out my coop's and then lay my trap before they know what hit'em.

Well I just got back back from watering again. Bad news and Good news.
I lost a turken hen, I guess to the heat. As for the goood news, I caught a big rat snake on the snake line. He is probably the one that has been swallowing chicks that are too big for him and then "giving them back."
The hen was in a coop with three chicks. In the shade but dead none the less.

Howdy, y'all. Just a quick pop-in to say "hey" and tell you I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Just that I officially took on the duties of local president for my union and it is taking up most of my time. In fact, I'll probably butcher or sell off most of my birds and chicken equipment, as I have very little free time now days. Take a year off from this farming thing until my year of duty for my fellow workers is up.

I'll still be doing some birds for meat and eggs though.

Speaking of which, how many meat birds do you plan on doing at a time, Jeannie? We've decided we don't need my friend's tub style plucker, as our Criagslist Special tabletop plucker works great. Let me know if you need it or the electric scalder that came with it.

You're in very good hands with Al, but if you have a lot of birds, a plucker makes a big difference as far as speed goes.

And sorry about your dog. I lost my Buddy a couple of weeks ago and it still isn't the same around here.

Another option around the bottom is good 'ol barn tin. Have yet to have a coon or any other predator reach through that. Can also lay it flat around the perimeter and you can usually find it reasonably priced used at farm sales or sometimes even free.
