Had a great day.. hoping for rain though...

Kids and I headed to our local good will and was able to pick up some clothes and a nice old wooden chair to sit on... ( I like Old things not made of press board and marked with Made in C***a) went to my least favorite store... Atwoods where the customer service is not always friendly nor attentive.

Came home and found our duckling had died we named him Quasemodo since he was a lil jacked up and mrs seuss rejected him... he lived for 2 weeks... May he rest in peace.

I once put a roof over a 4ft tall run, high is much better. Think bending while cleaning.

If you are able to expand it out go for it. You will probably need the room later anyways.

One thing that I would do and that is to clear all of the low brush for at least 50 and maybe 100 feet around the area if you can. That way you can more easily spot predators when they come calling.

Oh, okay! So it Was because of the AI testing that I only had to pay $5?

That is my understanding. When I first got into the NPIP program a few years ago, I asked about the cost and as I recall the response, it was to the effect that the Dept of Ag had federal funding for the AI testing - so as long as it lasted, they would only charge $5 per year for the NPIP certificate, because they would do the NPIP testing while they were on premises for the AI testing. I got the impression that the Dept of Ag didn't know how long the funding would last and that prior to that funding being available, it cost about $35 ???? for a NPIP certified tester from the state to come out and do the testing.

When we first got our NPIP cert. back in '90 (way before H5N1 became a buzzword) the cost for the cert. was 5 dollars and I don't remember what the hatchery cert. was.

Thank you! I am planning on taking the Bobcat around the entire outside in order to putdown the chainlink! Since I haven't had chickens in there since March things grew up a bit! But I have new babies so must get a move on it!!

Well technically the bf has two bobcats for his buisness and several tractors for the farm...I just have to ask him sweet enough to give me the keys...lol you see that will ensure that he will be the one clearing the outside cause he says I'm clumsy

Thanks so much Grace! I really hated telling her, she took it better than I thought she would. We are on the look out for some good quality one's to replace her whites. I guess we are going to have to make a trip up to Tulsa soon.

Thanks Ivy, I'm sure it will be okay, she seems to think that there was a reason for it & did well with the news, we have since fixed the door so it won't happen again. I have yet to figure out how in the world she got flipped upside down like that. If we would of been home, we would of seen her & saved her.

Hiya Lightfoot!! I think my bed is calling me too.

Ya'll have a good night.

I got distracted LOL Yes I saw that, I think thats a great idea, I was using some plastic containers that made large chunks of ice an put them in the water bowls for them when I could, I have a 42" fan that blows across the whole rabbit area and when I needed to I put a single mister behind the fan and it worked pretty well I didn't lose any rabbits to the heat and I hate to say that cause yesterday I said I hadn't lost any chickens to the heat and went out and found my largest Buff Orpington hen had died most likely from the heat, I just got an old upright freezer today that works really well so if it gets this hot again or next year I can freeze all the flat bags of ice I should need for them and the chickens, Now I just need to figure out where I can put the freezer LOL
