Early afternoon everyone,
sjarvis00 - I'm hoping to find some nice RIR hens, maybe a roo at POOPS. I'd also like to find more blue or green egg layers. Barred rocks with strong, crisp barring would be good.
Update on the brain-injured cockerel: I'm starting to see improvement with my white Chantecler cockerel. The red/blue bruise on his comb is nearly gone. He's able to stand at the feeder and eat for a few minutes at a time. He still walks backwards now and then, but he rarely has his head curled down. He's getting vitamin E, B-complex, and selenium every morning and a few drops of Poly-Vi-Sol (without iron) at night. I'm also putting some electrolyte powder in his water every time it's refilled. He's too thin, and I'm concerned about how much bulk he's lost, but I am doing my best to hand feed him and I've been able to get several small spoons of warm cereal, scrambled egg, and bread soaked in milk into him each day. He seems exhausted by the effort of resisting and then accepting the food. I wish I could find something he loved to eat so he wouldn't fight me. I'm keeping a 100 watt bulb burning near his cage during the day so that he gets a little heat and lots of light. It's dark in the barn, but definitely warmer than staying outside. The bantie hens call to him across the barn. He doesn't answer, but at least now he's able to lift his head up and look in their direction.
