Here is a little example of what happened 2 mo ago at the Cement auction, very sad but true story.

A trio of Rabbits were placed on the ring table and as the description began the lady handling the stock pulled out a pretty white poka dotted bunny and handed it to a sweet little 5 yr old girl. The bidding began and as Paw-Paw sat nearby he did the only thing to do, and joined the bidding all th while the girl is holding the bunny, Grandad dropped out when the bidding hit $25.00, and as the rabbit was handed off to the new very cold and calused owner the little girls upper lip poked out and she was very sad. The next Rabbit was just as cute and the little girl stood by admiring it too, grandad jumped into the bidding and hung tough until the rabbit bidding rose to a stupid $$ of 35.00 dollars. By this time the entire auction house could see what was transpiring and a low murmur could be heard, The last rabbit was pulled from the cage and this time grandma held the child at a distance as she cried uncontrollably. The bidding began once again and as expected Paw Paw was in the hunt, when the bidding rose to over $ 40.00 grandad stood up turned to the same callused cold bidder and said in a loud stern voice WELL LET'S JUST SEE HOW MUCH YOUR WILLING TO PAY!!!!! and the bidding became down right ignorant, by now the crowd had joined in voicing their discontent at the dream smasher. The bidding rose much to the auctioners delight to well over $60.00, at that time Grandad said he was out and pronounced openly to the crowd that if this is how you people react then I will never come here ever again, turned collected his family along with the still crying child and stormed out. To the crowds surprise the winning bidder calmly walked up to the ring got her rabbit and gave an I don't give a Darn look to everybody.
The auctioneer was bombarded after the auction with many complaints, but really what could he do, it would have been wrong to intercede.

Moral of the story: nothing is Taboo at the sale barn even in a God fearing little quaint country town, where people can still show their true colors.

Yup, that totally stinks........... Al, and I'm sure most all of us
on here, are total suckers when it comes to kids and critters.
Bill lost his right hand the summer before he turned 5 years
old....oh, he had one of those fakes for a while, but said it
just got in his way. He was maintenance manager at Pryor
Foundry for over 20 years, so didn't bother him.

Thus, he's a "kid magnet"...and loves it. I guess TJ was about
3....He went to a poultry auction up at Chouteau. A little guy,
totally in tears, came up to him and told him that his Mom was
making him get rid of his cochin rooster because he wouldn't
stay out of her flowers. I don't even remember what Pa-Pa
paid for the rooster. But, went and found the little boy and
told him that he'd bought the rooster and about TJ, and assured
him that "Rocky" would have a good home. All was well....

Yup.........TJ's first chicken............I've got pictures of Rocky
riding with TJ up the driveway on his little Gator plastic 4-
wheeler......LOL

I just love "yacking" with you guys.............

Gerald and I were at the Blanchard auction last night up until 2 am, but I'm not aware of any of this happening. Kasi, are you sure it was me?

Hey guys can I get some building help? We are scroungers when it comes to building projects so our coop doesn't exactly look pretty and the new run isn't exactly square, but we make do with what we have and try to buy as little as possible.

Right now I am just trying to figure out how to construct a slanted roof on what will be our new coop (formerly our run). I was just wondering if anyone was willing to do a close up of their support system for their coop roof and post it so I can wrap my head around it a little bit better. We are just planning on using plywood for the roof, hopefully I can talk hubby into putting shingles on it (The neighbor behind us has extra from after the hail storm) The coop is currently the same height on all sides, so I was thinking of 18" 2x4s on one side but the slanting support 2x4s are giving my brain grief, I feel like every idea I come up with is not secure enough or overly complicated.

There was only a few people PO before these people caused their little scene at the desk and left but they bought some chicks. So I assumed that someone POed chicks that they wanted. I never get to pay too much attention once the auction started so not absolutely sure if it was you but.............Then this woman went out the back door where the end of the birds were and started talking to Chuck (hubby) about the rude people at the cashiering table and how people should not be able to PO.

But as the day has progressed I have contected her with an completely incident that truly makes me believe that some people are just tuned to think people owe them. Long drama story on another board about 1 year ago.

Yes we had alot of stuff yesterday a pair of EGYTIAN GEESE sold for 54$ but I don't do geese but some of the big rabbits went pretty high I think 44 and 45 on the gaints not sure on the flemish. the bantam light brahmas quad were nice but when I first got into chickens hubby made me swear no banties so alas only animal I came home with was 1 rabbit to replace a doe that has never heard they saying multiplying like rabbits.

My breeder coop is 7 1/2 by 4 foot. with the slant on the 4 foot side. I don't know anything about drafting design etc but i took 1 4 foot 2x4 and marked it diagonally to oposite sides and cut using a circular saw. It is not much of a slant but it worked OK. Attached these to the upper rail of the side added a 2x4 to the front where the gap from the slant was works just fine for us depending on the size and width you may need to use a 2x8 or so. I can draw a picture to explain better if needed cause I am not always great explaining with words.

I can't imagine paying more than $25 for a rabbit at an auction - unless it was pedigreed and of some unusual variety, in which case I don't know why it would be sold at an auction in any event. It would be interesting to know why the successful bidder was willing to pay so much for a rabbit - particularly under those circumstances.
