Doubleo I am going to wait till spring to see what I end up with as far as Turkeys go. I have one older one that is starting to gobble and the rest are just doing the juvinile yelps like a hen does. We are going to try to set up trios with what we have and go from there. But after they start laying there will be poults too!

poultrynbees, thanks so much! I only have that class 2 more times, then the final.

I've never seen a white NN, they're gorgeous! I've never seen white Jungle Fowl either, and I had no idea how big they were. I want it!

Even my husband was impressed, and he's not into birds like I am.

Okie, cute bunnies.

This spring we will also be getting a few eggs for blue Saipans too. Can't wait!
Naked necks come in all colors but are only standard for show in just a few. These are actually a Columbian pattern but without the hackle feathers they are just a black-tailed white. And big, that is why she liked them so much. I'm guessing they are a Rock cross so if we put the rooster back over some Rock hens we can keep the size and define the line even more.

Hey everyone!!

I am looking to start a small farm to keep my family of 8 mostly self sufficent. I dont really know too much about chickens. I think I want Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps. How do these chickens handle the heat here? and do any of you insulate your coop? If you have any ideas for coop plans I would love to hear them. Thanks for listening

I wish my wife only referred to my stuff as a zoo...somebody told her about adjectives at some point! I keep trying to add and she keeps giving me dirty looks!

Those profs can be a pain. I am working on my 220 something or so hour of college credit and have ran into a few winners. Just had a friend's grandaughter get into a row in a class. An atheist felt the need to inform everyone else they were idiots. Not the prof but they didn't stop it.

I have several friends that have barred-rocks...they give great eggs and do fine. I don't insulate my stuff but will run a few heat lights and a heater for the really cold stuff...frozen water is a pain!

DJ,
I have Orpingtons and they have done fine in the heat and the cold. They are not my best layers. If you are looking for good egg producers, Leghorns and sex-links are the best.
Barred rocks, Rhode Island reds and Australorps are good layers too just not as prolific.
My best layers are my Welsummers.
