The last time I looked at the OKC municipal code was in 2006. At that time I learned that if you live in the OKC limits, OKC permits you to have poultry and farm animals (except pigs) provided you have at least one acre of land. They have limits on the numbers of animals such as horses, goats, cows you can have, per half acre. For instance, you can have one horse or cow (large animal) per half acre OR 2 goats or sheep (small animal) per half acre.

OKC doesn't have any limits on the number of poultry you can have, although you are not supposed to "house" a rooster within about 200 feet of a church or residence.

Some OKC neighborhoods may have covenants that prohibit poultry and other animals, even where you have an acre of land.

Hey Teach Sunday morning after POOPS do you think you could do the morning service?? Hennie could play the guitar and we could sing songs? OK I will howl but everyone else could sing.

. Remember the after church nap I was wanting sooo bad.

WELL after church we stopped and ate lunch which was YUMMY!! Then we headed off to TSC to get feed for my chicks, they had baby ducks and chicks.
John(DH) and Shaun(DS) was loading up feed while I was oogling the chicks. When I walked back over there Shaun was crying- Shaun NEVER crys!! He had dropped a 50lb salt block on his big toe!! It had already turned blue!! So We took him to the ER, good news was it wasn't broke. The ER doc put a hole in it to drain the blood out, that was kinda cool.

So we finally get home and Shaun is resting, I decide to go out and try to get some of the stuff I wanted to get done, done.
I cleaned out the 2 horse trailer that our meatie chickens are in. Moved some more chicks around. Played with my baby geese, cleaned cages and so on.
Well I have this hen that is crippled on one side. She was spraddled legged and I didn't know how to fix it at the time so she ended up with a bad leg. I pamper her because I feel like I should have either fixed her or dispatched of her. I was cleaning cages and I put her on the ground to be a chicken. I walked over to where I feed the others and she followed. I was pleased that she was doing so well. I turned my back and Shaun's dog got ahold of her and KILLED her!!!

He doesn't bother any of our birds. But I guess he saw she was weak or differnt and her KILLED her!!
I haven't told Shaun, I just can't!
So I have had an eventfull afternoon with no nap or ice cream!!

Oh my gosh SC... I was thinking the same thing...more about Teach, but that would be so cool....I wonder if I could get my cabin another night?

I posted this Topic and have not had great response.... can anyone answer another dumb hatching question?

"I have a SDOEGB that has just hatched out 4 chicks I planted under her. My question is can I grab the chicks and throw them in a brooder and plant more eggs? Or is that cruel and unusual punishment? I have 7 RIR eggs I would like to hatch, but not if doing so would be to the hens' detriment. The fourth egg from this hatch has pipped, but not zipped yet... it is yelling like a banshee in the egg.... But I was thinking to take them all out if that one hatches OK and plant the eggs right away..... can one fool a hen?"

I would think she has set for 21 days without much food, I wouldn't do it.

How is everyone this evening??

My last egg that was zipped has finally came out of the shell. Poor thing is in there all alone. When it gets dry I will put it with just a couple of the others till it gets rested up. I have moved most of them to the large cage with the heat lamp, they have alot more room for all the moving around they are doing. I love this part.

bigokie what do you mean that you don't get enough birds or large enough quanities?

Don't you just love us knew folks with a thousand questions.

OK.... I'm going back to the kilt thing... I was telling hubby about it and he told me this joke.... Don't know if I can get away with it, but I'm giving it a shot...

This scotsman was wanting a kilt, but he didn't know how to sew, only knit. So he went to the yarn shop and bought a ton of yarn in the colors of his clan. He spent hours and hours knitting away... day and night he slaved over his project. He finally got it finished it and even had yarn left over. His kilt was awesome! He was so proud of himself that he raced to his girfriend's house to show her his finished treasure. On the way to his girlfriend's house, he snags the edge of it on a bush, but in his enthusiasm is completely unaware. On and on he goes, knowing how he is going to impress her with his new kilt, all the while it is unraveling inch by inch until there's nothing left. He gets to his girlfriend's house and pounds on the door hollering her name at the top of his lungs. When she finally answers the door he raises his arms in triumph..."Look honey!" he shouts, "And I have 15 more feet just like it at home!"

Yes, you can fool your broody hen into setting another group of eggs. When it is night and she is relaxed on her nest, reach under her with an egg or two in your hand and pull out a chick. Repeat until the chicks are pulled out. Try to keep them warm so they don't do a lot of chirping. Since she hasn't yet been off the nest and started taking the chicks around to show them how to eat and drink, she should still be in the "broodie trance" that keeps them on the nest for 3 weeks or more. You might try to warm the eggs in your hand before you put them under her, since cold eggs would feel strange to her. Good luck!

There is a site I found last year that has most cities laws listed, you just have to search through it for the livestock/pets section. I'll see if I can find it again.

Do you look for certain breeds or for whatever someone is needing? I am only curious, I have hopes of hatching my next batch for that reason. To sell the eggs and maybe sell chicks of those breeds. The hatch this weekend was my test hatch and they will be me eggs for eating that I plan to sell also. (You are the beginings of my reserch)
