I guess I am fairly easy to figure out!

Yeah! Tests are over for the day! We are playing with pulleys!

Monty - I heard from so folks that you need to write dates on the eggs you put in there....something about being able to keep track...I don't know about that sounds like some bad juju to me!

Henny - my friend in juju! We're getting chickies tomorrow! MIght be a week before I can make it to Amarillo! The mother said something about it being her day or something and we gotta listen to her

Any sort of environmental stress increases the likelyhood of cocci. Plain ol' good management is the best way to stop it...get it as dry as possible...clean water and fresh feed...good ventilation. You are on top of things don't worry

By the way...'member those stupid hens that all went broody together? Guess who is back to the same tricks?!?! I am about to slap some chickens! Gonna lock them out of the roost!

Monty, here are a couple things to consider:
If you are going to add eggs to the Sportsman and have a staggered hatch, I would just leave one tray empty to hold those new eggs.
If you are just doing one setting, I would spread them out since better air circulation equals batter hatches!

As far as staggered hatches go, it's really best to do it only is you have two incubators (one to use as a hatcher).
Using the trays the way you are, I do not know how you could stop some of the eggs from turning while having one tray still turn.

The sportsman I use has a hatcher tray on the bottom. Maybe his is similiar.

I run staggard...well...that would seem to imply planning...I kinda throw eggs in every once and awhile and get all surprised when I hear peeping!

Better write stuff down where you can find it Monty...around our house that means we tell mom to take care of it

I'll let my asssitant Teach answer that question. What do you mean CYA in this area? I am not planning a trip that way that I know of.

I 'sorta do the same thing, but since I am keeping the eggs in egg cartons to hand turn them, I am writing the date I set them on each carton

Mine does have a tray on the bottom plus three turning trays.
I have a notebook attached to the bator with all the pertinent info.
My name, my address, my phone number, my DW's' birthday. and some stuff about when I put the eggs in and when to take them out.

Monty, you are too funny, you keep notes like I do

I completely forgot about that hatching tray

Yeah, there is really not much to worry about, then. Just save up however many egg you are planning to save, mark down when you set them, and you should be good to go

Teach... Yeah it will be a bit before I can make it too... Hubby is going on call soon... No rush...I will try to keep the little suckers alive until we can get together....

Well I hope I don't get cocci... I always disinfect the coop like once every couple of months, you know roosts, (scrape, scrape, scrap....mist, mist, mist)etc. Keep droppings fairly well picked up...(scoop, scoop, scoop) and always disinfect waterers and food dishes...(scrub, scrub, scrub) So I have done all I can....

I'm thinking one of my BO's might be going broody. I was wondering what the hay... a couple of them are pulling out breast feathers. Now the GINORMOUS one is on the nest and won't get off. And when I went to gather eggs... It made itself GINORMOUSER by standing all it's feathers up....and then...and then... it really got mad!!!

Thanks for the info, fellow Okaviaphiles

Lots of talking sense I left last nite. Had to skim several pages to get caught up. Teach we will have to work something out, I may only keep a handful of the japs. Graceful, I hope you get a great hatch, sounds like your on the right track, glad that sportsmen is working great. Belive it or not its raining here:p
