Teach - I really don't need a hutch so don't feel you need to come all this way. It is a long trip and your boys are most important. (But don't they know yet that baseball is B..o..r..i..n..g..?)

KT - 13 cats is something to aspire to...?! Sounds like they were all healthy and happy to live such a long time. If you're serious about the tabby girls I'll get them wormed and their first shots (when they're old enough) - maybe we could meet halfway for the exchange. Would be worth it to me for them to go to a good home!

I'm more afraid at this point of the chickens eating the kittens! None of my cats bother the bigger chickens. When I was growing up one of our roosters killed a full-grown tomcat.

Beth would love to have more kitties... but since I moved to Oklahoma I have a new addiction....CHICKENS....they eat up more than their fair share of my budget!

Have been watching the eagle cam... kinda scary how they leave it alone alot.... have yet to see an adult.... It's all by itself....I know it's high up but jeez....

Hey Al - can you (or someone who knows) give me the recipe to make the stuff that keeps whatever is making my squash leaves look like lace away? I remember reading it days and days ago...should have paid attention to the post #.

Yes I did and it was quite easy I am so excited I have 18 eggs now so now just hope all goes well... I 15 of those eggs are Bantams so this will be my first shot with the littler breeds!

Hi Grace! Glad you're here - I have a couple of Qs and you're the perfect Answer Person for me! Some of these questions may be dumb, but please bear with me - I know nothing about bantams.

1. I am thinking of getting a couple of silkies. If I do, should I keep them in a separate part of my yard or is it okay for them to be in with my LF once they're big enough?

2. Do you know if Silkie roos are as loud/crow as much as LF roos?

3. How much run space would two silkies need (assuming I keep them separate from the LF hens?

Thanks Grace!

ETA: I know I directed my Qs to Grace but I welcome any comments/advice anyone else has to offer, too!

City Clucks - I sprinkled DE on the areas the hens and guineas are taking their dust baths last night - it finally seemed dry enough to sprinkle it on the ground. I think I will put some in the nest boxes where the hens are setting this evening. I imagine it will make the hens more comfortable in case there are crawling things in there with the eggs.

One thing about the DE - it is so light weight once it is out of that densely packed bag, it is like spreading talcum powder.
