TJ's Na-Na :

Around here, when the chicks come out of the brooders and
hit a pen on the ground, at about 4 weeks old, we go ahead
and start the worming process. Then at about 8 weeks old,
we pull them off the medicated feed and go to layer crumbies.
We maintain the worming process for the duration....usually
once a month.....or more often if anybody starts acting droopy.....
Am sure it's different in other areas, but works pretty well
here in NE Oklahoma.

Okay I have a bunch of babies of mixed ages. The youngest little ones are 7 weeks. They have all been fine together and so far seem healthy and lively. I will change the feed this next week. I thought I wasn't supposed to change to layer feed for some time.

Oops! They are finally figuring out what the roost is for thank goodness.

I have read of several different worming options here on BYC. What do you all recommend? I want to do everything possible to keep these birdies healthy! I enjoy these little ones so much, especially as they have started coming over to get in my lap and snuggle. Although I think one of the little darlings gave me poison ivy from their free range time yesterday evening!

Oh well.

Hope everyone is staying cool. Shellie

I use Wazine, for the first worming. It comes in a white and blue bottle. Then I add food grade Diatomatious Earth to their feed once every few weeks. DE has two purposes, the first is it kills off intestinal parasites and the second it is a great source of calcium.

disclaimer: there are quite a few folks on this thread who are addicted to chickens, auctions and hatching. If you don't mind becoming addicted also, you are in the right place

Thanks! I will head to the feed store tomorrow. Shellie

Putting roos in someone's car would be even worse than loading it with overgrown zuchini! A few years ago, the senior class at our high school put cardboard down on the principal's carpet and then filled his office with caged barnyard animals. Needless to say, the next day when he came in, his office was quite fragrant

The principal was NOT a happy camper.

Evening...well...the rooster idea might be a thought. I have no idea who the deans are...I dont get replies to emails anyways! I shall survive. She has already hinted that I don't stand a chance at passing the last test..."The Capstone" I shiver in fear. Kinda funny considering I have to take a state test to get certified...another one of those wondderful ideas that the more tests we take obviously the better suited we are to be around kids. Never mind personal skills and if kids will relate to us...shocking how that could be important.

Had another ball game tonight...we played very badly. Lost by alot...we couldn't hit or field. Oldest did a good job pitching and hitting. Youner boy had a good catch and watched alot of strikes go by...

I guess we were a little more devious when I was a kid. Once, a teacher gave me a grade I didn't believe I deserved. So I poured glitter into his defroster, turned the defroster fan on high and sat back and waited for him to get in his car and turn the key on. It takes forever to get all that crap out of your hair.

But I'm much better now.

OK, here's an old one that I can share on here:

Carah reported to work this morning with a brand new, shiny, stainless steel thermos. She placed it on her desk in a spot that she knew would garner special attention.

Her boss came in and, seeing the new thermos, asked her about it.

Carah, proudly announced that it was her new thermos and it had the most amazing capabilities. It can keep hot things hot and cold things cold.

Her boss said "oh yeah, what do you have in there this morning?

Carah, her face beaming, replied "a pot of coffee and two popsycles".
