Just got in from midday watering. The birds are all panting like a Juarez greyhound but they have plenty of water and are in the shade.
I also have a fan blowing on the chicks inside the chalet.

It is hot out there and although the temp is higher today than it was Monday it seemss cooler today. I guess because of less humidity.


Well when it was raining 19 straight days im May someone (Al I think) said it won't be long until we are all complaining about the heat. He was right, but it wasn't nearly long enough.

I put water in milk jugs today and put them in the freezer I will be putting them out now everyday for my poor chickens and back in the freezer every nite. Wow when im out changing the water and checking on them I cant stand it I feel so sorry for them. Also in the afternoon ive been taking cut up vegtables out of the icebox for them to eat to help cool down also.

Tonya. I love you part of the state. We spent spring break at Beaver's Bend. I'd love to be swimming there now. The water was nippy when we were there in March.

Hi everyone - just about to go out and put ice in my cluck water.

I bought some overripe watermelons cheap - cut them up and put them in the freezer, feed the frozen chunks of watermeloncicles to the birds. Thank heavens their run is in shaded in the afternoon.

So sorry about your birds, Grace - what a terrible thing to come home to.

Well just got in from watering the chickens, hosing down the llamas and trying to get the hose ran out to the coop. Just about 20 feet too short. Crud on a crutch!!

Had to bring my big fat (20lbs of hot fuzzy love) black cat in the house he was laying under the swing panting away. He is very happy to be in the air conditioning but so am I.
I need to get work done out side but it is just too stinkin hot. Have to repair my propane line. Don't ask if you have not already read the post a few days ago. Have to start digging the trench for the new water line, coop work, etc., etc. But it is all just going to have to wait until it cools down.
Hope everyone takes it easy out there and drink lots of water. It is a scorcher. I think I am going to go take a nap!

Just came in.....it's 97o on the porch, in the shade....BUT, did
hear some thunder !!!!! I got online and checked radar and
there is a good little boomer just a few miles north of us.
It has clouded over and a good breeze has kicked up, so....
have my fingers crossed. Any little bit will help. Now gotta go
run Bill and the kids in from down on the creek....LOL

Looks like they're getting some storms and hail up in the NE
corner. Hope Neecy doesn't get any of the hail.

Stray I think you can turn the lamp off. Not much chance of "chilly".

Only got the 40' done then petered out. Took medicine the doc gave me and feel like a zombie. Nothing getting done tonight but a shower. Well at least that's 40' I don't have to worry about later. Jeez.

I just spent the past 45 minutes getting caught up from last night on these posts.
Hubby put up a mister for the chickens and rabbits that are outside under a tree, after noticing that the guineas across the street were hanging out in the shade and sitting in the mud created by the mister he has over there for the llamas and Shetland sheep. Even the horse stood still and allowed a couple of buckets of water to be poured over him.

I have decided it is better for me to go to bed a little earlier and then get outside about 6 am to get all the critters fed and watered. It was still too hot last night at 10 pm for me to be outside for long.

Na-Na, glad the rabbits are enjoying the spashes of water. I have read where some people dunk their rabbits, up to their neck, in a bucket of tepid water when it gets hot like this. I am putting frozen water bottles in with some of the rabbits. They didn't seem to like them at first, but I noticed that they no longer are moving away from them.​

TJ's Mike and I always joke in fall about "it's down to 85...better get a coat!" The heat out here is so strong for so long it does seem cool sometimes.

I too....the musician, night owl, vampire type have decided 6:00 am is about perfect to get up and bust hen chops. They are used to 8:00 am so they are still on roost when I go in there like a drill instructor, crap scraper in hand. They love it. My rooster is awful to them at that hour. I have told Mikey not to be surprised if he comes home someday and I have shot him for molesting hens. If he gets me in the right mood and makes hens cry...I might just do it. The big brute.

I would like to time a hatch for when my sister is here in August. I know that's late....she will be here from the 21st to the 27th and my Mom's bday is in there as well. I know it would be late, but with proper care is it possible? I think it would give us something special to connect around. (Watch them all end up DIS) LOL.

Well going to chase in the teenies and take some more of this wonderful medicine they gave me for my gut and go to bed....
