I think he mentioned taking the family on a vacation somewhere or something like that. I hope he is relaxing a bit before School starts back up again.

Wow. Bummer. All that way for nothing. At least you didn't get cited like that lady. Maybe she was a repeat offender.

So... pardon the stupid question, but is this a requirement in every state (I'm thinking mostly Oklahoma, though) to sell birds at swaps and auctions? Or was it just because you were from out of state?

ETA...
I'm not looking to getting into selling on a regular basis so much as finding an outlet for unwanted birds. I'm considering taking these three leghorn cockerels (too small for meat) and some of my RIR pullets to one of the auctions, as I don't need that many laying hens. Don't want to go to a whole lot of trouble just to do that.

I believe and someone please correct me if I am wrong but what they told us in the NPIP certification meeting is if you are going to show or sell in another state they have to be NPIP certified in that state. They also said that a lot of states do not allow sales of birds from other states, testing or not. Texas being one of them.

A lot of people sell their roosters out at the swap meets to people for food. But other then that I am not sure where you would off load birds. One suggestion is place an ad on Freecycle or Craigslist. I have seen ads there for people wanting to get rid of birds there before, as well as requesting birds.

Al, He killed two of my best layers. A leghorn hen and a welsummer/RI cross. It was partly my fault, I had added an extension to make a new run to where they could get to a grasssy area. It was just gonna be temporary but had been in place a few weeks and he hadn't bothered them.
Anyway he dug in and caught two. The leghorn loooked good and I thought she would be all right but she died too,
Then to top that off yesterday one of the meanies in the pen pecked another hen in the eye and she may end up losing it.
I had a one eyed hen for several years before she went to the big roost in the sky last year. I am pretty sure that hen was ten years old. She was a tough old bird as they say.
So what is happenin in with our folks today?

Monty, that is a bummer. I have a fear of something getting into my pens but have been lucky so far. Bill has a nice setup with the electric fence around his. When I build my large runs, I think I will do that.

Thanks Charlie. I haven't had anything dig into my pens in years. This was a thing I did and then when I didn't have any trouible with it I didn't bother to bury it or put anything around the bottom.
I was planning to take it down since they had eaten most of the grass but I waited too long.
I guess that is what happens for me being too lax.
So how are things with you and your chicken family?
I think you told me you live at by Mohawk Park. Are there still about threee million squirrels there? The last time I played golf at Mohawk several years ago there were squirrels everywhere.
Have a great day.
Monty

Hey Charlie! How be ya? We are hot and dry down Altus way....

Monty, I have a bird blind in one eye...She is one of my best layers. The vet told me it was a defect...(Might have been talking out his arse...he's kinda known for that) The eyeball is shrunken and the socket is kinda swollen up....he had some fancy word for it. Still a good hennie.

I forgot about Teach with school starting up. You guys out here start up a month earlier than we did in CA. We did not start up till September. Then got out in June. I'm waiting for fall this year I tell ya! Jeez!!! I don't like it when the days get shorter and I can't work outside as late...of course it does get cooler so ya wanna be in where it's warm....just can't imagine that now...

Thanks KT. I think this hen was pecked ( Iguess that makes her henpecked) because the eye was bleeding. I don't know how else she could have done it.
I am not ready for the stress of school. My son hates it. But fall I love.

I have a friend working in ALtus today.
I told him to be careful there are some crazy folks down that way.

Yes, I live near Mohawk and that is the thing that bothers me. There are critters all around here. I do have a dog that helps keep them out.

My Chickens are doing great. Growing like weeds. I think I got too happy buying eggs. lol Those eggs convert to chicks and It doesn't take long to have everything full and running over. I think I am at about 100 now.

Henny, I saw on the news that you were getting some 100 degree weather there. It is a nice 74 here now. It was hot when we were there for the renunion.

Hey Charley what ya been up to, how's your Cornish doing? getting any eggs yet?. I happened to get a successful sample from the Roo last week but no fertile eggs yet, I crack every one and do the bullseye test, nothing yet.

Al's cornish are big hulking things! Jeez, they look like mutants..

I hope there is a fall POOPS...

Yeah Charlie it was hot here...for awhile...It's calmed down some. We have huge wind today...that's weird... must be a cold front comin' usually the only thing that gives us wind like this....
