My grandson refers to them as the rat killers. I like them because they are wonderfully protective mothers and they teach their chicks important things like how to get up on a roost. In my experience, the majority of the large fowl hens will teach their chicks how to scratch for food, but aren't as good about the safety skills.

Good night Al -
Time for me to call it a night so my brain will function tomorrow. The older I get, the more sleep I seem to need to function well.

It should be nice again in the morning. I couldn't believe it was only 64 degrees at 6 am today/yesterday.

I had a funny thing happen today as I was moving some birds into their new digg's in the Condo. I was seperating some Barred Rock hens to their own pen from the main layer coop and the resident big cheese kept running around and standing in front of the hens trying to prevent me from taking them. it struck me as quite the chivalrous act, I did manage to get them all and boy was he mad. but he quickly forgave me as I then gave him 20 brand spanking new teenage hens to train. they were his daughters from the winters hatching.

Good morning Okies,
It is a glorious 65 degrees outside with zero wind and 75% humidity. Time to get all the critters fed before work and enjoy the wonderful two hours of nice weather we get this morning.

Nice and cool morning here, trying to fight the wife out of bed so I can take her to work and go pay bills. Im picking up 14 dozen guinea eggs in Wagoner this evening so I cant wait to get them in the bator. Best of all the wife is going with me and doesnt seem to be mad about it one bit. Yall have a great day.

Good morning, everyOkie! It's nice here this morning, too - same weather as P&B has. Can you believe it's nearly the end of July? I guess these past few days in NEOK are trying to make up for those June scorchers. It's supposed to heat up again starting today...sigh...

I turned the water on the garden and let the chickens out of their run this a.m. One of the RIRs and the Brown Leghorn have discovered how easy it is to jump over the little "fence" I have around the backyard garden, and they love to peck my green tomatoes. They will stay out if the sprinkler is on, so in an hour or so I'll put the girls up and turn off the water.

What a wonderful morning!! It is so cool and nice out there! Why do I always have to work on the nice days. I love the pic of your hens on the tomoato's!!

I hope this day fly's by so I can go home and play with the chickens.

Good morning everyone, I woke up to the dreaded words every farmer loves to hear, "THE HOGS ARE OUT!!!" this morning, jumped up and dressed and grabbed a feed bucket and off to the garden where the sow was, and she met me at the gate so she went in easy, the boar was out behind the barn and came running to the feed bucket, they had pushed through the corner panel of the grazing pen. Anyways, we got that taken care of and Dakota went on with the rest of the chores. It is nice out here, I have a load of scrap metal to go pick up this morning , will be back on later, Have a great day every one. Lynn
