I have gotten my best crosses from the Giants in both black and blue and Australorps. They hold the basic body type better and are massive birds. Remember the NNs atre decended from Oriental Games so their body weight will be more then their body looks like it would be. Years ago we had a blue NN that was 15 pounds as a young cockerel. He was a Giant, NN cross.

Thanks Les for the info.

nnbreeder - one of the Malay x nn hens is going broody again. Since there are no roosters in the area she is housed, I gave her all the EE eggs that were laid this weekend, so her nesting won't be in vain.

Rooster's Bar and Grill. Hennessey Ok. This car runs and drives. The owner of the place used to cook for Eichen's in Okarche.

I have got a NN hen that is sitting a clutch of four eggs on top of one of the pens. I check on them by using a leaf rake to lift her off the nest.

Those hens are bad about going broody but I am still breeding from the parent stock.

Cool truck.....
We have not yet been to Eichens, but have decided the fried chicken at the Halftime Bar and Grill out on Newcastle Rd West of the OKC airport is really tasty. It is served on waxed paper rather than plates, as I understand is the case at Eichens.

the mental picture of lifting a bantam hen off a nest above your head with a leaf rake is pretty amusing.
I don't consider going broody to be a bad thing. The hens normally have a much better hatch rate than any of my incubators, which is why I will give this hen all the EE eggs layed tomorrow also. She currently has 8 EE eggs, a golf ball and a chalk egg beneath her. She really screamed when I tried to see what was beneath her in the nest.

I am glad to know that. We certainly won't try it on a Friday night! I know some people who take a few hours of annual leave periodically and drive out to Okarche for lunch at Eichens.

Some Thursday evening we need to get a group together and have fried chicken at Roosters in Jones. We have stopped there several times, but their chicken livers are so good that I haven't gotten around to trying their fried chicken. As I recall, Monty you indicated earlier this year that they have great fried chicken.

I suggest a Thursday night since that is when the horse/tack/cow/goat auction is held in Jones and I know that Teva always attends that auction with her mother.

I haven't had their fried chicken it was the giant chicken fried steak they have that I love.
My wife and daughter get the chicken fried chicken and they say it is very good too.

A Thursday dinner at Jones sounds super.

Ok I gotta go to bed.
Later guys.
