Hey Carla, Carla Did you see this?

I do not need to hatch more chicks!

I think 2 sportsman incubators and one hatcher are quite enough already, at least until we retire & can spend more time on birds. Thanks for thinking of me though.

Oh come on what is one more??? Just think you could use another one and hatch more birds and retire earlier!!!

I have great pyrenees but they're just a year old now ... no puppies yet.

Here's pic's of them last year.

2 are AKC registered, and one is not. I may be talked into giving away the unregistered one though

I have found out through research and now experience, that great pyrenees females do not usually get along with each other. It is definitely true.

Gerald mentioned today on our way to work that he could stay home & make enough money with raising birds and veggies if he didn't have a regular job. I'm still praying the government will eventually downsize and offer early retirements. I will definitely volunteer to go home.

I take it you didn't make it to Cement last time. They were giving away GP/Aussie mix pups, and I snatched one right up. I almost took two! To tell the truth, though, I'm very familiar with Australian Shepherds and I just don't see a speck of that in her. Didn't see it in her siblings, either. But then, I love Aussies so I don't mind the mix.

When we were house shopping we looked at a 19 acre place on Kenyon or something like that in Elgin and they had what I thought was a Great Pyr watching their sheep.

She is a very interesting puppy. Never seen anything like her to train. She just doesn't act like other dogs I have known. We are having a great time!

Here is a very good website on LGDs...
http://lgd.org/index.htm

And there is apparently a listserv that deals with them. Maybe someone on there can help you...

And lastly, I ordered a very good book on LGDs through ILL at the Lawton library. This FY we will be adding a copy to our collection...
Livestock Protection Dogs: Selection, Care, and Training - Paperback , by Orysia Dawydiak and David E. Sims

Can you tell I'm excited about this dog?

Here is EXCELLENT info on the Great Pyrenees:

http://www.akc.org/pdfs/breeds/ClubFlierPDFs/GreatPyrenees.pdf

They definitely have differerent personalities from any other breed of dog I've ever been around. Very mellow and extremely intelligent. They do like to bark at night too ... but that's also how they keep predators away. Some people keep their pyr's inside at night to keep from anoying their neighbors with barking but I figure I'm not annoying the neighbors enough with all the roosters crowing and guineas & turkeys and peacocks!

Would it have been Kleeman Road here in Elgin... because we bought a house well it used to be 19 acres, but was portioned off prior to us getting it and we got the house and 4 acres and the folks had a GP named Sam that protected the sheep.. they also had hunting dogs as the family liked to hunt..

Let me know what you decide, and I can edit my donations list.
