Hey Maran Man (aka Monty) - Any guesses on the breed of this pretty little thing? It will be 5 months old this Friday.

CammieI looks like a feather legged Cuckoo Marans cockeral to me.
However I am basing that on comb only. He looks a little dark to be a roo. Typically they are lighter. He's not 5 months old in that pic though. Got a more recent photo?

Hey Teach
I no better. Hawk just looking for and easy meal. I just yelled at him. Had 3 young hawks raised 300 feet from the chicken coop. Mississippi Kites usually raise young ones right above the coop but did not this year. Maybe because of the red tails?? I love hearing them holler anyway.

Monty - I meant 5 weeks. LOL! I'm hoping its a pullet. The breeder who sent me the eggs explained the cross, and supposedly it will only produce Golden Marans no matter what its bred with. They seemed to know what they were talking about, so it'd be nice if it was true. But if its a cockeral, you may have another Cuckoo coming your way!

Speaking of Cuckoo Marans, I supposedly have a Cuckoo Maran cockerel, but the eggs I got were lighter than my Delaware eggs. The pullets that hatched with the group were dark and they have the characteristics, they just hatched out of light colored eggs.

city... could you tell me what breeds the two nosey hens in the picture are... i'm trying to decide if i really have a buff colored leghorn hen or if she's something else.. ...and she looks just like the darker hen only buff colored like the other one???????????? thanks

Na I just saw they were #5 in the national polls? I don't watch the games. Stillwater is my home town so I guess I am a cowboy fan.

Whirlwind - Ah I see. I like football, and go to OU, but I'm not much of an obsessive fan. I get most of my news from listening to my parents or people in class. Ya that's me that lives in Chickber. Lol

Delawaregirl - Looks like a Barred Rock to me. Marans have feathered legs. But I'm no expert, just taking a semi-educated guess.
