Engie - does your signature line this evening reflect an update of what you might have acquired/sold/traded at POOPS?

I downsized 2 tom turkeys, 13 runner ducks, 2 silkie roos, 2 adult guineas, about 20 assorted pullets and roos that were 3-5 months old and 10 guinea keets. We gained 6 polish teenagers, a pair of Saipan Jungle Fowl, a Malay/nn cross rooster, 20 assorted chicks, 2 silkie hens and one young quail.

Last night was a cool night so I am hopeful that all 20 chicks were accepted by their new mama hens. I had 2 large hens hatch out chicks this past week and their chicks were about the same color as the ones I added beneath them last night. I am counting on the theory that hens can distinguish color, but can't count - to allow me to sneak in extra chicks under them. I gave the Saipan chick back to its mother and I am confident it will be well accepted, but knew better than to try and give a Saipan a chick she didn't hatch and isn't exactly the same color as the ones she did hatch. They are very protective of their own chicks, but will not accept other chicks they can distinguish from their own.

Good Morning all. I am so sore this morning! We came home yesterday and got started on rearranging chickens, we have been needing to do that for a while. Thank goodness my neighbor has extra pens at her place. She has been trying to get rid of them for a while. Got a pen to put my cochins in and then picked up a shelf unit made for housing birds( Luvs2garden wanted it), filled it up with trios of old english until I can get pens for them. We got alot accomplished yesterday and everything is alot more organized!

TJs Na Na - I want to thank Bill for helping to identify my old english yesterday and for looking at the quality of my langshans, I guess we are going to try showing at Shawnee this December. Please PM me the information.

Dandelion - You are welcome, I hope you enjoy the trio. I am so glad I didnt take them home, after everything we did yesterday I wouldnt have had anywhere to put them, they would have been stuck in a cage.

Morning. I got home yesterday right at 11 am. Scarred there was going to be a murder. Lets just say he was glad to see me. So anyway. got all the birds unloaded and "thrown" into pens, had to jerk some out and move as they didnt agree with some of the others. Then MR ducky (our lone lonley male duck) was circling the truck. The runners were still in the truck. They were happy to see him and he happy to see them. Unloaded them and Mr Ducky showed the new arrivals the ropes. Where the food and water was where the woods was and so on. We herded them down to the pond and you would have thought they had NEVER seen water in their entire life. Well anyway Mr Ducky said.......tell Marybeth THANK YOU for his new friends.

The bidding war................there at the end I got threatened with a newly acquired hatchet so I did have to stop. Love ya Donna.

I had so much fun, i have not laughed that hard my entire life. Lynn said he was glad he didnt make it saturday for that part. He didnt make it he had to work on the hot water heater house and the truck so I have a running truck when he leaves.

To all who helped in any way at all. A giant thanks You all were just the best ever.

Tina - My old eglish are enjoying their new home( for now), finally got nests in there before locking up for the night. My little black OEG hen was in there checking it out. She hasnt laid since I brought her home so Im hoping she likes her new arrangement!

Glad Mr. Ducky is pleased to have friends and that the runners have a new home to enjoy. They have only had the opportunity to "swim" in a 7 gallon tub of water, so they are going to love having a pond in which to swim.

What really shocked me about Lynn was he really did enjoy having the runner ducks again. Now the dog was like what are those. Oh yea mr ducky who is not a runner, started standing up like the runners. We laughed. I will get pictures of them soon.

I can see me now, trying to identify that beautiful turkey with the wings spread gracefully over the arm of the holder, searching the poultry books for a turkey breed called "Mine"

Yes, that would be my bourbon red. He really is a good boy just stressed out by the changes.
Just to let you know in the spring I am going to order bourbon red pullets from a couple of hatcheries to diversify my bloodline. The minumum order for most hatcheries like McMurrays and Ideal is 15 so I would be willing to split an order with a couple of people. The hatcheries usually have pullets available in April and May. If you are interested let me know.
I will post again about the ordering closer to the time they are available. We can also pre-order which will ensure we get them early.
The bourbon reds are my favorite breed of turkey. I think they are beautiful. I have three toms, all of them are still young but will be over 30lbs when they are full grown.
