I run my incubator at 100.5 (forced air) constant and with little to no opening the bator. You can ask Jarvis aka Steph. I can not hatch out a roo. I get 99% pullets. I think ( and might be wrong here) its the temp flux that will only hatch out roos. I read somewhere................ that all eggs start out as girls and then the temp flux will cause the majority to be roos.

Since I started incubating at 100.5 I have hatched out 2 roosters. Also the other thing I do is the dry method. Now I have an auto humidity bucket thingy and so testing that. The humidity is up to 78% then drops to 25 and up again.

In reptiles, yes but not chickens. They are sexed by the hen who carries the male sperm before the shell encases the egg prior to being laid.

With the temperature spikes - essentially the would-be pullets would die, the female embryo not being able to handle the higher heat. That's the thought on the matter. Not sure if it's true or not.

As the reverse would also apply for hatching more pullets than cockerels.

luvs is coming to get Ollie today and take him to be with other ducks!

I am so excited and thankful, he will be a happy boy.

Henney - Aw thanks! That pic makes my family laugh too, they keep calling me The Chicken Farmer. Lol

Cuban - Is there anyone in your area that has an incubator you could borrow? Or maybe someone could offer to hatch some in their own home and send you the results.

luvs2garden - I had to read to read through that ebay post a few times to figure out what the heck it was about. That is hilarious!!

Just wanted to clarify, I don't necessarily believe the 'higher temps' theory, but thought it was something that could be used for the science fair project. When I worked at Atwoods they used the 'hang-it-upside-down' theory to sex the birds. SO embarassing... I asked them one time why they did it, they said a customer told them that's how its done. I NEVER did it. But there was also a woman working there who said Guineas did not lay eggs. I asked her if that put them on the 'endangered species' list.

It is so true tho. You get the coop $$$$ then you (if you do it in the right order) get the birds, then you get the feed (should be step 2 but) then all the other things. Then you forgot to get something and go back a few trips............... again more $$$. Then its hurry up and wait for that $$$$ egg. Then there is them auctions. It has been said that IF I wanted it there was not a price to high for me. I think Donna cured me.

So a 749 $ egg I can believe it. I spent a few $$$(it was a bit more than that ebay egg) at an auction one night and I got a Christmas card from them. Had to make 3 trips to get everything.
