shawnee is about two hours south southwest from me. I don't have a car of my own, so it's getting someone to take me that far. I'll have to check just were eufaula is. I'll make it to one one of these days...

Well if we get to go to the Shawnee show we could probably swing by and get you we live in the far northeast corner of the great Okie land and wouldnt be out of the way!!!!

Okay, survived. Don't send the posse. The tom dressed out at 35.4 pounds, the hen (I decided to only do one... the other one gave me a dirty look and scared me) weighed in at 26. That is a live weight of 44.25 and 32.5 pounds, respectively.

It took me this long because I dry plucked. The big tom I processed last week I skinned, so decided to dry pluck this time since this is our "learning year". And what did I learn?

Don't dry pluck turkeys.

I'm happy, though. We are doing this whole bird thing in large part to feed ourselves. That's a grand total of 108.85 pounds of home grown meat from just 3 birds.

Just got wind of a show coming up soon. It is in Fayetteville Ar. on Nov. 7th. This should be a good one for everyone up in the Northeast corner of the state. All the particulars can be found on WWW.hotopa.com ,including a printable entry form.
Have fun , Richard

If I had to say something that I dislike about chickens, it's that they can just up and die with no warning...it is always shocking to me when it happens...so unexpected! I hope your daughter is OK!

You are an inspiration to Jason aka Chicken Flavored Cook-E since we too will be doing this turkey feed us thing this year also... we still have several months before we can do our turkeys... so your insight fullness is appreciated

Why, thank you, BarnSwallow, and thanks to the Cook-E man. A way to look at it is, if I can do it, anybody can do it.

I'm finding it a very satisfying way to live.
