Dubbing fowl is not specifically mentioned in any of the Statutes I've looked through. Here's the Animal Cruelty one, interpret as you will.

§21-1685. Cruelty to animals.
Any person who shall willfully or maliciously torture, destroy or kill, or cruelly beat or injure, maim or mutilate any animal in subjugation or captivity, whether wild or tame, and whether belonging to the person or to another, or deprive any such animal of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering; or who shall cause, procure or permit any such animal to be so tortured, destroyed or killed, or cruelly beaten or injured, maimed or mutilated, or deprived of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering; or who shall willfully set on foot, instigate, engage in, or in any way further any act of cruelty to any animal, or any act tending to produce such cruelty, shall be guilty of a felony and shall be punished by imprisonment in the State Penitentiary not exceeding five (5) years, or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding one (1) year, or by a fine not exceeding Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00). Any animal so maltreated or abused shall be considered an abused or neglected animal.
R.L. 1910, § 2746. Amended by Laws 1997, c. 133, § 384, eff. July 1, 1999; Laws 1999, 1st Ex. Sess., c. 5, § 276, eff. July 1, 1999; Laws 2003, c. 363, § 1, eff. July 1, 2003; Laws 2006, c. 188, § 3, eff. Nov. 1, 2006.
NOTE: Laws 1998, 1st Ex. Sess., c. 2, § 23 amended the effective date of Laws 1997, c. 133, § 384 from July 1, 1998, to July 1, 1999.

Hmmm,

So, when you take a 12 week old Mini-Pin or Boxer to the "vet" to get half of their ear cropped off (which is required on a Mini-Pin and suggested on a Boxer to show) is the vet inflicting animal cruelty. I could also add tail docking and dewclaw removal too.

Or is this Statue saying that all of this should be done by a vet? That would be job security. Does this say that an individual cannot put an animal out of it's misery? It sounds like it could be applied to hunting deer or fishing too. Better not kill that copperhead snake. I know I'm going out on a limb here but I'm trying to prove the point.

Many animals have distinctive surgeries done because of their breeds and cannot be shown without. Most people wouldn't even recognize the breeds without these things being done.

I don't believe the statement is referring to what we have been talking about. I believe the Statue is referring to animals being grossly mistreated. Things such as having acid dropped on their heads, beat and starved.

It's not pleasant but until APA or ABA makes a change it is required to show game chickens.

Well, yes my son looked into the incubator and left the lid off and the temp was at 94 when I noticed and I don't know how long he had it opened.

Rotten, YES there were 2 with blood rings like bacterium but, the other ones had nothing but cloudy, rotten yellow. I don't think they were fertile. But, I know nothing about eggs and fertility.

Cuban, I have been feeding Nutrena feeds to the chickens. They have done well on it and no complaints except for 4 bags last month that didn't look to good.

I am thinking of trying the Big V brand after reading your post. Do you feed the all way crumbles to your laying hens also? I saw where they have all way laying pellets also. Both 20%.

I have to buy the crumbles since it's what is available locally, without driving up to the mill in McAlester, or I'd get the pellets because of the waste issue. It works great as an all around feed, young ones to layers.

I generally feed sanitized eggshells to the layers on the occassion, and I haven't had a big issue with soft shelled eggs.

I cannot wait 'till tomorrow! It's the Idabel poultry show

The only problem is, since it's so muddy out there, my birds keep getting re-dirty and wet!! I am going to have to get them cleaned up this evening, then put them safely in their show cages for the night!

dachsunds, thanks for the heads up on the eggbid Hamburgs. I think I saw them already, and if I did, they are from the same line mine were from

Too bad I would have to have them shipped and that is a no-no right now

Eulaine, yes that is what I meant on the dubbing of cockerels, I just didn't get it all sorted out in my head before I posted

It is much more simple in my opinion for a cockerel to merely be a rooster under one year, but shows require a certain cut-off date within that year...which really confuses things!
I agree...dubbing is out-dated and just another silly rule!!

Tara, do you still have that (well, one of the) Brown Leghorn roosters? I didn't see you sell them at POOPS.....
Anyway, I thought one of my pullets was a rooster, then decided it just matured early. Then I found a great SQ one that's going to be at a Arkansas show next month, but I really don't think we are going to that show now.
So... I am back to wanting yours
lol.png

If you do have one, can you bring it to Idabel?
Thanks

I would but he looks really bad, I'd be so embarrased...

If you want the one in Arkansas I can pick him up for you? At the Fayetteville show, right? Because, I plan on going.

We have one cockerel that we've named "Pigpen" after the character in the Charlie Brown comics. No matter what I do, within a few minutes of being cleaned he's filthy again. He seems to like it. He's loving this weather. He's outside right now wading through a puddle. I swear, it looks like he's smiling.
