My ducks must be related to your roosters, Stimpy

I give them a nice clean pool of water and ask them to please get cleaned up for the show in the morning. They quackingly laugh, and run over to play in the nearest mud puddle... as it rains!

BYC friends....I need some help. I have 2 different silkies laying. I have never had a hen to hatch her own eggs so I'm a first time "mom" for this. They are laying their eggs but I don't see them sitting on them. Do they lay a pile of them and then decide to sit on them? I thought about getting the eggs and putting them in the bator but I want them to hatch them. One hen has 7 eggs and the other has 3 eggs.

Somebody please help me cause I sure don't have a clue what to do.

Thats funny because the Rooster I got from you at POOPS is afraid of getting dirty, he is always just shinning compared to the rest and they all stay pretty clean for the most part.

I have great news I went into the condo today to feed and found the whole place dry as a bone and very cozy, I even got down on my hands & knees looking for leaky spots, didn't find any. I am overly pleased because I hated when it rained allot to have nasty runs and coops not to mention birds that looked all muddy.

I would but he looks really bad, I'd be so embarrased...

If you want the one in Arkansas I can pick him up for you? At the Fayetteville show, right? Because, I plan on going.

Grace, I'll stuff him in a box and bring him. I'll let you decide if you want him.

If you want him, I'll give him to ya. He just needs some TLC and a pen away from other roosters who pick on him.

Cuban - The question seems to come up with the new statutes
when Oklahoma fiercely outlawed Game Bird Fighting. While
we don't abide chicken fighting, in Oklahoma you'll get more
years in prison for fighting chickens than you would for raping
a child. And, since OEGBs are "game birds", we need some
clarification. And, hope someday, they stop doing it. I can't
imagine why they would quit showing them....That comment
escapes me. But, just because "it ain't whipped yet", ours
are dubbed.

Hey, TJ got 100 extra points for his volcano.....LOL After all
our discussion about "how the Hawiian Islands were formed",
etc., the teacher asked him what he called his project. He
replied, "I call it, Mount Saint TJ"........... Anybody want a kid??????

Hope everyone is drying out.

Have a good one !

Not sure if you all spotted these yet but the Lawton Craigslist have a few chickens up for grabs...

Doing some thinking and reevaluating here on how we run our homestead and protect the things we have as our neighbor across the road had his truck broke into sometime last night(in that weather?) as well as another neighbors house , who ever it was got spooked because the "goods were strung across the front of our property and the neighbors on the other side of our trees.. Hope they catch who ever done it... but its had me just shake my head and go people these days... even in the country...

Hey Grace, want to be sure I understand you. If you're talking
about a show before November 1st, you're right. But, anything
shown after November 1st MUST be dubbed. We showed two
at Tulsa non-dubbed, but Bill had to get out there and dub
8 cockrels yesterday to have them ready for Fayetteville.

This dubbing deal is something that Bill and Maribeth are talking
about. We're trying to locate and document the Oklahoma Law
that says it's a Federal Offense in Oklahoma to dub game chickens.
But, it is required for APA and ABA in Oklahoma. I'd love to
think that eventually this whole dubbing crud can be eliminated
for the OEGBs.

In what I'm reading, sounds like there is another show at
Idabell. GOOD LUCK to all of our Okies that will be showing.
Keep us posted !

Have a good one !

My understanding is that the statute has nothing to do with dubbing for show, it does however have everything to do with having game roosters that are "battle ready" which would include dubbing and cutting of the spurs. To that end, here is the rub... say you have a game rooster that is dubbed for show, and he is of an agressive nature, do you really want to leave him with his 2 inch long sharp as a needle spurs? And if you don't for purely safety reasons, is he battle ready and have you broken the law? Until it's played out in court well... we really just don't know the answer.

I had no idea that there were that many wild predators in our little town! Oh well, the number is getting smaller every day.

It seems were always getting a possum here or a skunk there here on our little place. My daughter got to shoot her first possum the other day (it was in a live trap) and you'd thought she shot a 10pt buck the way she carried on. I never relized how many critters where out there that would try to kill my chickens until I bought a few.
