Jeanie : I am still and probably always will use straw hay. Coops and pens are to big to use anything else. Hay is cheap and plentifull, it is just the best for me.
Pro's :
It compost well, easy clean up, cheap, the birds like it better to scratch in because it has grain seeds in it, keeps them warm in winter.
Con's :
May have bug's or mites in them I haven't had any yet, must be careful to buy good stuff IE moldy/ wet/ old.

You make the choice whatever works best for you.

Well, I'm happy. Not only is it Friday, but it also happens to be Auction Day Eve, and that is always a holiday around here. (Yeah, Al, I got the bug.)

Tomorrow is also processing day. We will do the last two of the BB White turkeys (AKA "The Beasts") and two big fat White Rock hens. I'm curious how those last two will dress out. They aren't Stimpy Rocks, but they are still good sized birds.

Hope to have them all done by 9 AM so we can hit the Farmers Market in Lawton and do the yard sale circuit (which is also date time for DW and me).

Are they still having the Farmers market at the Collisium, and what time do they start???. Taking your DW on a date to a yard sale, your such a romantic guy hehehehe. Hey do you still want this meat grinder???, I will be in town today to close a deal hopefully and do some farting around, we could get some coffee.

For breeders I have a black pair, a blue breasted red trio, and a quad of black breasted reds. None of them are laying at the moment, all the girls are pullets that could start laying at any time. Other than that I just have all the chicks that have hatched over the last few days.

Ok I got some sleep and am now able to discuss my daughter. The doctor ran tests for both strains of the flu. Both came back negative. He said that she most likely just has the common cold. But, get this, he said it was my fault because I give her store bought milk. I should be giving her fresh whole milk because it is much better for her. Due to the weather we have been having, I should have taken it upon myself to find fresh whole milk for her because it is not homogenized or pastuerized. It is higher in vitamins and minerals that store milk. He told me that it is my fault that my daughter is sick because I did not make sure she got enough Vitamin D during the rainy weather. And that is exactly how he put it. I was so mad when I left the hospital. I was glad she didn't have the flu but theis doctor really upset me. He also told me that the H1N1 flu is just a bunch of hype. It has been set up to scare people and so tv can get good ratings. He told me that testing her for the flu wouldn't make a difference. Either she has it or she doesn't, does it really matter. I had to make him run the flu tests.

Outcrossing is the secret to getting good NNs for show.

I take that as a yes but maybe I didn't state it correctly, meaning your nn are a smaller bird (i think) and the giants are in the same pen with them.

Yeah I know I am slow this morning~ still need coffee but it is too late.

Carah, if she really wants Polish, and if y'all try to come to the Eufaula show (or Shawnee, I guess) I have my last White Crested Black pullet for sale.
She should start laying really soon
