Are they still having the Farmers market at the Collisium, and what time do they start???. Taking your DW on a date to a yard sale, your such a romantic guy hehehehe. Hey do you still want this meat grinder???, I will be in town today to close a deal hopefully and do some farting around, we could get some coffee.

AL

The Farmers Market is trying to continue until November, 8 to 12 on Saturdays or until they run out of produce, but it looks like they may not be open this Saturday (not sure... may be closed according to their website at http://swokgrowers.org/ ). The egg guy will be there, though. You could buy some eatin' eggs if you need any.

Would love to have coffee... if I drank coffee.

I'll do a Dr. Pepper, how's that? Can't get away until some time after 12, though. On duty and all that. We can get together and talk about meat grinders, big white birds and such.

Ooops! Spoke to soon. The Market will also have the following...

"vegetables: peppers, squash, sweet potatoes"

Our garden is still producing peppers, but I might check up on them sweet taters. Wife will probably want some of the squash so she can force-feed it to me.

just fell off the roost I guess. Or maybe flew off and whacked herself on something....She had a small amount of bleeding out of one ear....the one facing the floor so I don't think it was other chickens....If the snarkies don't get me something else will...

smfamf, You need to find the state medical board's website and look up the procedure for filing complaints.

Considering it's not LEGAL to buy raw milk (the "letter of the law" b.s., at least in the central/metro area), the doctor not only offered unsolicited advice and doled out unprofessional/unfounded blame, he/she advocated you BREAKING the letter of the law.

She could be a perfectly healthy child and get a cold. Unless bloodwork shows VitD deficiency then they need to STHU, and even THEN most cases of Vit D deficiency are because even though a person may receive enough VitD in their daily activities/diet, they may NOT be processing it right (both my mom and a good friend are Vit D deficient, and they eat plenty/spend a lot of time outside, it's all an issue of their bodies), which would still be indicative of a deeper problem.

File a complaint a throw a big ol' hissy fit.

My snarkies are back.... Sneezing...one hen with the rales (My pet hen of course) I have been bawling for an hour. I am cosidering culling them all and burning the coop. I can't keep going through this.

Now that you have them dewormed, it sounds like you are having the normal problems caused by constant weather changes. What type of antibiotic did you give them last time for the snarkies - do you have any left?

KT : Maybe it's the time to get a state NPIP tester out to your place. they do the first test of all of your birds for free. There is as you are well aware a bunch of our folks that know more about this than me, so you may want to at least visit with them.

AL

Aww Hennies don't give up. Those poor girls are just weak give them another round of antibiotic and see what happens. Al also has a good idea with the testing (I'm sure NN can tell ya what the best plan would be). You get so much joy out of your friends along with your mom. I hope it resolves quickly for you!

I do the deep litter inside the sheds, with the pine shavings. Just add more periodically. Unless it gets really damp and stays that way for awhile, the ammonia doesn't get strong. Of course, if you can smell ammonia, it is time to change the bedding out.

The pro is that it is easily put in there - take a plastic bag of shavings into the shed, slit it open on the side and shake out the shavings and then kick them around to the corners. It is readily available year round and you don't need to worry about getting moldy bedding to begin wth. it is also, for me, comparatively cheap when compared to good stray or hay.

The con for me is that my doors are too narrow to get a front end loader inside, so it has to be scooped out with a grain scoop and placed in a tranport unit (small pull behind trailer on the mower, front end loader on the tractor, wheel barrow) hauled to a pile in the middle of the pasture (unless there is someone who wants it, in which case I fill empty feed sacks about 1/2 full and they can pick it up in the feed sacks.

con - once it gets wet - too many days of rain and the hens coming inside with wet feathers and dripping on the floor - it stinks and takes several days to dry out. It can also get compacted, particularly when mixed with mud at the entrance into the shed (think adobe bricks) and have to be chipped off the concrete in chunks at the entrance so the door will close.

I don't like straw because I have trouble finding it that doesn't have mold in the middle of the bale and because straw is so slippery to walk on when wet.
