I think DH cuts it with a recipicating saw(sp). We seem to have metal laying everywhere. Someday it will all be on top of coops. LOL

Good luck on getting some deer! I laugh because I told me son that I bought freeze ziplocks (150 gal size) and some of that paper you put between the steaks and that he needed to get me a deer. Guess he showed me.

Congrats on your first egg! Sorry DH didn't get to get the surgery but sounds like you did alright on the stove/fridge.

Barnswallow, yes EE's can lay brown eggs.

If your worried about your young chickens eating layer feed you can just add some oyster shell in a seperate feeder for

the ones that need it and keep on giving them grower feed.

ETA this is what I am doing with hens and 12 week olds in the same pen.

LOL, I have milk crates in my laying pen. The guy down the road moved and left a bunch of them, the new ppl were going to burn them, I had the kids hauling them on the 4 wheeler for a couple of hours. I think there are 15 in that coop. In the other pens I got some kind of wooden thing that was used to put parts or something in that just happened to be the right size holes.

I am going to try and post a picture of a full milk crate and explain where I cut them

I cut the outside where the holes are on one side and leave the solid pieces and put a piece of plywood on the bottom and then cover with straw

What color were the Sebrights? The Silver ones are about as close to SS Hamburg bantams I can get!

Now I understand. I went the lazy way. I just mounted them on the wall (bottom of crate to the wall) then took a 4" piece of plywood the length of the row & attached it to the open end of the crate to hold the hay/bedding in.
