Wait! Don't go! I just got caught up on reading all the posts since 5:00 this afternoon!

Sooner,
Anytime someone comes around my office to do a "lighting audit" I threaten them with grave consequences if they try to reduce the lighting in my office. I have a huge window at my back, but during the winter I don't get enough light from it and need the overhead lighting to keep from turning into a "cries all the time" person. Hang in there.

I tried working in an office once, lasted a whole day. Come to my senses and climbed back in a truck so I could at least roll down a window to get some air.

Just keep after it and treat them for a full week after you see no more symptoms. Silkies are known for being fragile so you are doing a very good job, keep it up!

Well just ask away but I am getting ready to start my day a little early this morning so I will backtrack and reply this evening. Teva had a flat this morning so I have to change her tire and do the chores she didn't get to while warming up the spare truck. Tote hay for the goats feed the geese and ducks check water and on and on. LOL

Incubator cleaning? I have a cabinet incubator and need to clean it out. I usually vacuum all the shell pieces and whatnot out. What can I clean/disinfect it with? Bleach water? Want to make sure I do this right. I might decide to hatch more eggs this year and sure don't want any problems.

Bleach water at 10% solution is wonderful stuff. It kills anything it touches provided you let it sit for about 5 minutes.
I soak my egg cups that are in the turner and scrub them to get any leaked egg or shell off them. Wipe down the bottom and sides and turner trays and top shelf with bleach water. Do you put bleach water in the water holding tank? I add bleach to the bucket that feeds the water source inside the incubator, nothing will grow in the water inside the incubator.

Foam incubators are the challenge for me. I fill up the washing machine with hot water, turn off the washer so it won't agitate and soak the screen and plastic liner in hot soapy bleach water for at least 30 minutes, then scrub any egg shell and crud off and rinse well (in the kitchen sink) before returning them to the incubator. I scrub the inside of the foam bator with bleach water and let it air dry.

I've heard bleach water. That's what I plan on using to clean the inside of the borrowed 'bator between the LF mutt eggs that are in there, and the next batch (silkies).

I know the concept. I asked what was used as the pan.

I have seen them made with a galvanized pan, like you buy to drain the oil from your car into.
