Actually, the Marines were called devil dogs long before WWII. I was taught in boot that it was because of how they fought at the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918, but I'm reading they were actually being called that before that battle.

Not that I would know anything about the Marines or anything.

I'm actually more excited about the extra hour of daylight before going to work in the morning. I don't much like doing my morning chores in the dark.

Al thank you for posting those pics, ive been planning on doing somethign like this myself. I have a bunch of 1,3,5 gallon buckets laying around i collected from work. Those seem simple enough for a dim witted young man like myself to make. Now if I can just get the gumption to do it! Seems like you could take a square piece of tin or plastic and bolt it to the bucket lid to help wiht the rain. I would probly leave mine in the coop anyway though. Do those work equaly well with pellets?

Hey Ronnie ; Yeah you could put a rain shield on it but that may make getting the lid off a little harder, I leave all my feeders in the coops. Yes pellets work great that is what I have been using this year, I never even find so much as 1 pellet on the ground with these feeders.

Les, would you please repeat the treatment for eye problems. Thanks.

Hi Betsy - I saw where Les said he was heading out earlier today, so I went back and found his post to Q re: eye goo remedy - is this what you were looking for? (I'm considering auditioning for job of secretary to Dr. Les

Q get some Terramycin eye ointment and use that on their eyes. Tractor Supply has it I know and it's hot or miss whether a smaller feed store would. Be sure too that you practice good boi-security on these new birds. Be sure to care for them last and wash up good after handling them.

Good morning, my favorite Al! Thanks for the photos and explanation on the feeders - I've saved it for future reference. Also, I wanted to tell you Jack came over Monday afternoon to help me cut that plywood, and he brought his skill saw! You were right (of course) - it was much easier to cut it with that than the table saw.

(Monty - I know you're going to ask: the skill saw is named Porter.)
