I don't know if you got an answer from CrazyChick82, but since she's my daughter and lives next door to me, I can tell you that just like me, she's right between Prague and Seminole.

You are in the right place to find out where to acquire just about any kind of chicken you might want. If we don't have it, we can tell you where the auctions are that might have it. How many chickens are you wanting to start with and about what age? We might have trouble finding you a hundred hens of laying age in the breed you want..... at least on short notice.... but give us some time and we can supply information on acquisition on just about any kind of poultry.

I think my prettiest large breed chickens are the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, BLRW for short. Gorgeous birds! I bought mine as eggs from a really nice man named Troy at one of the last Jones auctions. Monty knows who I'm talking about. Hopefully the pullets will begin laying soon

Then, my other favorites are my rare chickens ... the Brabanter and the Spitzhauben

... then my other favorites are the various colors of marans

... then silkies

... turkens

... then all my new bantams ... sebright, d'uccle, oegb, rose-comb

I'm sure I've missed a few of my other favorites

WONDERFUL! Maybe I'll eventually con you into coming over to check out my girls...and tell me why I have 22 chickens and NO eggs.

Don't feel lonely. I have 19 hens, 1 rooster and 1 that I have no idea. I get one egg every few days. I'm told I may have MG in my flock since a few of them have cold symptoms. That may be why they aren't laying. However, I'm not real sure it's MG - their eyes are clear, not runny or goopy or droopy. They just cough and sneeze for a couple of days and are fine. I've had a couple die on me, but most of them recovered. I still have two that are sneezy/wheezy. Thought for sure I was going to lose one the other night - she was really struggling to breath - but no rattle. The next morning, she was breathing much better - still a bit labored - and rattly while she was eating her fool head off....

Larry,

It all depends on what you are expecting from your chickens. Are you getting them for eggs, meat, eggs & meat, bug control or exhibition?

Hey Q! Are you thinking of getting rid of any that you have? Or just adding a breed to fill that empty pen? Which of the birds you have are your best layers? I would keep the Barred Rocks for sure, and the Marans and EEs for a colorful egg basket. Rhode Island Reds are another of my favorites - friendly and good layers, and pretty. My black Australorps are also good layers. If I could add a breed, I'd get Speckled Sussex - but I don't know if they are very good layers...I've heard differing stories.

lmark! Some of the other people here have given you good advice on where to find chickens, and it really does depend on what you're looking for - layers, meat birds, a mix. I'm glad you found us! BYC is a great place to learn about anything Chicken! (or duck, or guinea, or turkey, or rabbit, or goat, etc., etc.)

Thanks for the info.

Not sure about the bread yet, I for sure want layers and perhaps meat as well. Likely only want to start with 4-6 until I know what I'm doing. I would prefer a little older birds to start with, pullets or so. Other than that I'm pretty open.
