Funchick? Sounds like you should be called workchick.
Thanks for killing coyotes. I hate them even though they haven't been a problem here. When I lived back on the ranch they were everywhere and sneaky.
Good luck on the wortk projects.
A Nichols Hills chicken coop? That should win a prize.

Thank you Monty!
I haven't been on much lately because DH and I have been working outside so much getting our "Little Coop on the Prairie" ready for winter. We really built a chicken mansion! It has "re-purposed" double pane storm windows, and an old door from a house that was torn down in Nichols Hills...plus we were able to buy about 1000 feet of used chain link for a chicken yard...we really have been working hard! The yard isn't yet set up...we have been trying to get the used auger we bought for the tractor set up so we can drill the holes for the chain-link posts...then, the chickies will be safe from the coyotes! I can't wait! The darn coyotes are so bold that they are walking within 50 feet of the barn when we are out there! Luckily they only make THAT trip ONCE when I see them! Walking up to the barn with the rifle is now a requirement...ay carrumba!

They are BB Rd Rosecombs, but they need work. I'm going to have to cross back to Rosecomb to fix the comb, lobes, and tail.

Matt,

I bought several color varieties of rosecomb bantam hatching eggs earlier this year on eBay. They are supposed to be from show stock. I 'm pretty sure I have some BBR, but haven't paid a lot of attention to that pen yet. If I have some I'll be glad to share hatching eggs in the future.

Questions are good! That's what we're here for (and to make fun of each other, make each other laugh, share sadnesses and stresses, show pictures of chickens, be angry at having to deal with predators, show off cute baby photos, etc.!)

"Broody" means a hen wants to sit on eggs until they hatch. Some breeds are more likely to be "broody" (motherly) than others. Silkies are one of the breeds known for being broody often, while Barred Rocks, not so much. I've had one of my Buff Orpingtons and one of my Easter Eggers go broody on me this summer and fall, which is dumb, since I don't have a rooster, so they would sit on unfertilized eggs. If you want to hatch chicks, having a broody hen is great - no better incubator. But if you don't want them to sit, it's sometimes a pain to break them of it. Broody hens don't usually lay eggs after they have decided to sit a clutch, plus it's hard on them because they don't want to get up, move around, eat, drink, or do anything else but sit on those eggs.
