Opps, I forgot one of my replys:

Monty, there is a pretty good breeder of Welsummers that lives around here. The one time I saw his birds at the auction, though, they went for $14 each - even all the roosters.

To Tulsa and surrounging areas: How do you feel about having chickens even if city, county laws say otherwise? I live in Broken Arrow on an acre. I am not supposed to have poultry.
Should I do it anyway? I am sure some of you are in this situation. I am not the law, I just don't want to worry about losing my chickens.

Petlove, I don't live in that area, but I think it goes kinda the same everywhere. If they find out that you have the chickens, you will receive a fine and they will give you so long to rehome them. If you don't, they take them. But you can always have quiet hens and try putting them in a more concealed area. Its really your decision, but if the law says no, you are taking the risk of having to eventually get rid of them.

Grace - The Brabanter/Spitzhauben person is in Tuttle, which is real close to me and Newcastle! I haven't called them, just looked up the phone number.

Okie - Someone not too far from us was giving away banty Mottled Cochin roos not too long ago. I'm trying to find their BYC name...

Monty - Do you remember who had the Mottled Cochin roos?

But there were alot of birds! Me and Grandma got there at 4:30, auction started at 5:00, and we didn't get home until 8:00. It was a good auction, lots of cages, good variety of birds (mixes and pure), and hardly anything went for more than $10. Chickens, guineas, peacocks, pigeons, doves, and bunnies. If you can go next time, I'd recommend it. People came from pretty far away!

So here's what I got:

Pictures not so great, but you can tell what they are!

That was a while back but I think it was cheryl (Summerwinds on BYC) I haven't heard anymore about them.

Countyroad: Glad the auction was bigger than you thought. I may try and go next time.
I found out today that there is going to be not one but two goat and poultry auctions in my area. One starts next Saturday in Harrah. The other one is set to start sometime in March. It is just outside of Harrah.

There have been a lot of people here on the BYC that have fought their city laws over chickens. Some have won some have lost. The hard thing for you would be to invest your time and money into having them and getting attached to them only to have to give them up. Does your law say none at all or are there just restrictions? You might stay under the radar for a while but you should prepare yourself for a battle.
