am back....bizarre stuff....I cannot tell what the deal is...I hacked off as much as she would let me...I had her in the tub, covered with a towel...so she wouldnt thrash about. It looked like an egg yolk might have gotten stuck in a small pocket in the vent so I was hoping I could just clean it out and be done with it. But when I started cutting and pulling it away it eventually had blood vessels running in it....but not black, or gangrenous looking...So I'm guessing at this point that it was proud flesh from an infection of some sort. I cut a lot of it away and shot her up with Penicillin. She is under a lamp in the garage and seems fairly cognizant....I'm asssuming I will have to cull her since I could not remove all that tissue...It would have taken most of her vent on the outside. Poor hen.... She was fine yesterday...I'm wondering if maybe she is an internal layer.... but no... because the affected area looked like it was separate from the vent initially....like a golf ball shaped growth under the skin...she did have scabs in spots and I cut all that away....oh well..we'll see...she is very thin...light....but peppy, other than she doesn't want to get up.... the smell was amazing...definately infected somehow.....need to go put on the iodine....
