Henny, Getting older isn't for wimps. Isn't it amazing how when you turn 40 - you need more sleep, bi-focals and your body starts acting like a car that is 200 miles out of warranty and falling apart

Les, I had a chili cheese baked potato for lunch and thought about how much larger and tastier the ones you can buy at the Jones auction taste (and less expensive too

Cammie, I just got an email comparing the benefits of water to Coca Cola and it said that a T-bone steak would dissolve in Coca Cola within 2 days. Maybe Al can tell us how long you need to soak a steak in Coca Cola to make it tender - without dissolving it. I don't think there is any MSG in Coca Cola.

City - if I would eat like your DBF Jack, I would undoubtedly be able to lose some weight and feel much healthier - but I sure don't want to have a health need that requires me to eat healthy.

Slightly Cracked - congratulations on the improved ACT test! And the reason you got a 4 the first time in reading was because you probably "weren't" thinking. Grammar was my son's most challenging part of the ACT - because everytime I tried to correct his grammar when he was growing up, he would tell me that he "knew" the right way to say things but didn't because he knew it got my goat.

You will do great in school. I always hated having an older student in class - they studied and ruined the curve for those of us who didn't study.

I cant remember where I read it at but I saw someone with a dislaimer about people using those incubators. From what I hear they result in more heartbreaks than anything else. What colours do you get from EE bantams? I want some of those guys around febuary if there laying. Right now ive got way to many eggs in the bator and I cant remember all the hatch dates cause I didnt right it down!@!! On a plus note, I did get a realy awsome looking Rooster for my wife today.

Hello everyone

I've been busy catching a cold. No, I really wasn't wanting to catch it, but I guess the darn thing caught me. Sneezing, achy & stopped up head. I got all ready to go to work today and then talked myself out of going & then went back to bed. Anyway, luckily I had some Sudafed & Tylenol & I feel better now, just weird. The Benadryl makes me sleepy, but the sudafed makes me ... loopy.

Oh, and I got some marans & blue laced red wyandotte eggs in the mail today from eggs I bought from a fellow BYC'er ... but 8 were broken upon arrival

They said they'd send me some more again though & I'm going to send them some of my eggs.

Luckily, Gerald is feeling great and is taking care of all the critters for me now that I'm all moody & miserable.

Now, it's time for me to backtrack & see what everyone's been posting about. It looks like it might take me awhile to catch up reading

Was your wife wanting a rooster? I seem to recall that we harrassed you last year for getting your wife an appliance for an anniversary. If she wanted a rooster - way cool.

I haven't shown any, yet. When I do show, I will have to follow the rules set forth by APA and the ABA. So, while I do not consider a stag a cock until he's finished his second molt, the APA does.

The young birds on my yard are around 4 months old, but are feathered so they're okay as long as I provide them a place to get out of the weather (their pen, which is wrapped in plastic and covered on top with tin).

I let them out during the day and they put themselves up at night.

Isn't it great how chickens will put themselves to bed when it gets dark. I wish children would do the same

Sometimes I like to think about all the "sayings" we get from watching animals. For instance, someone who "goes to bed with the chickens" is someone who goes to bed early - or at dusk.

"Birds of a feather flock together" is most generally true, although a co-worker told me today that she has a bantam hen that likes to hang out with her dogs, rather than with the rest of the chickens. Guineas and ducks certainly don't hang out with chickens or turkeys if there are guineas or ducks around.

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket" is good monetary advice and good animal husbandtry too - since if you drop that basket, the eggs will almost always break.

"Don't count your chickens before they hatch" is also good monetary advice and we all know that even the best cared for incubator can fail to hatch the eggs.

"Madder than an old wet hen" describes someone really mad - but I can't say that I have ever seen a wet hen get angry - so I don't understand the reasoning behind that one.

Anyone else have some "sayings" that are based on animal or poultry behaviour?

poultryandbees - That Coca Cola info is scary! Its kinda freaky what all we put in our bodies. I don't drink sodas, though, so I kno that's not my issue.

Carla - BLR Wyandottes!? I love those!! What color Marans did you get?? Get lots of rest so you can get better faster!

I wish my chickens were at my house, they all look so pretty. Can't wait to get them moved here. My Cuckoo Maran is HUGE!
