And Good Morning to you Sooner the last thing I heard was that me and Al were going to meet at I-HOP at 0600 Saturday morning, although that is subject to change!! I think that pretty much everyone who is going to stay overnight is staying at the same motel and that would be motel 6, we are leaving at noon on Friday so anyone that is going to be there Friday night let us know and maybe we can go have dinner or something.

Q, I might can work something out for Friday. We'll see.

Six of seven guineas returned home after last night's gynormous owl attack. I'm going to assume that the seventh was killed. Looking at the bird netting over the pen where the owl was last night, I see feathers and frozen blood.

I spent an hour feeding and talking to them, looking for cuts or scratches, and so far it looks like one of this group had a close call, but the rest got away cleanly. I caught the guinea who has scratches on her head and neck, cleaned the wounds with peroxide, and salved them with antibiotic cream. She's making "This is a really nice, warm box" noises in the garage right now. I want her to dry completely before turning her loose again.

Does anyone pen their guineas at night? I could make a roost in the barn, I suppose. They follow me when they want food. Maybe I could teach them to come in if I didn't feed them until it's time to close up the barn. Please let me know your thoughts, guys. I love these honking snorkers. I don't want to lose any more of them to coyotes or owls.

So glad to hear they returned! The will if they can. The injured one should heal up with little trouble; they're very tough birds. I've had guineas much longer than I've had chickens. I always pen mine at night. If yours roost on top of their pen rather than in trees, they should be pretty easy to train to roost inside. I start using white millet as a "treat" in the evenings when mine are very small, making some sort of specific call as I take their treat out to them. Yes, if they follow you, it should work well to feed them just before you close up the barn. Feed them inside every evening for awhile, and they should soon learn to anticipate that feeding and put themselves up. I find guineas to be very endearing and entertaining.

One thing is certain. The owl will come back every night and get a bird as long as they are available.
They wiped out my dad's entire guinea and chicken flock which roosted in a big tree close to his house.

Thanks for the help with the guineas, folks. I've become attached to them. Because they run from DH but run TO me, he says I must speak guinease. I'm not going to let the horned whatsit get any more of them! Thanks again!

Big Q : You finished bathing birds yet ??. Yeah IHOP sounds good to me, I am flexible. Monty should still be working on the Dinner shindig and get our group a reservation. I saw that there isn't a penthouse suite at the Motel 6, now where am I going to stay LOL.

The auction last night was a little slow and over in an hour but then again it's Nov, Michael we will hook up this week and get those birds.

That is weird, we none of our bantams, including the bantam cochins we have, have ever been sick. We have only had the cochins about a year and a half though.

I really shouldnt have said that I have only lost one but there are some people I know that always have sick Cochins, but that may be the way they are raised etc.... Like I said I have only lost one and it had some problems with its feet and got the snarkies so I guess I am just basing my opinion off of other peoples birds. And really I like the birds but after messing with some of the Bantams that we raise yesterday getting them ready for show I was ready to get rid of them, so yeah I like the Foo Foo birds myself lol

Al I have four more to bathe but the good thing about it is that I am at work so I can take off next Friday so I will miss out on all the fun of bathing them today!! We bathed the 2 cochins and silkies yesterday, and today is the fun ones, there will be 4 Quail D'Anvers with 1 being a rooster and 3 being hens so yeah the DW is going to hate me by the time that I get home!!!! As far as a penthouse I am sure that we bring some stuff to make you feel like you are in a Penthouse!!!!!
