I dont know who you are talking about.... you will have to show me these tractors some time. What we plan on building is a basic A frame contruction. For the banties it will be a 4'h x 4'w' x 12'L with 4' of the length being the coop area and the other 8' being the run. then for the standards basically double the measurements and make the run detachable put the thing on flip down casters for easy moving.

Thought I would jump in on this conversation even though I am coming in a bit late. Of course I am not where near raising on the same scale you all are and have no plans to do such. The talk on chicken tractors is what I wanted to share some information with all of you about. I have a great idea for making a chicken tractor that I am planning on building in the spring. What has spurred this idea was the fact I have a hugh swing set the people I bought my place from left. It is kind of a deluxe model with three sections. I have taken all the swings, slide etc. off and am left with a pretty nice A-frame. My plan is to turn this into a chick turn out pen, once they graduate from the brooder. The main feature is that it will be all metal and/or plastic so it is easy to sanitize and a stablized frame will allow for easy hauling around. It is also part of my recycle program to cut down on overal waste.
I can tell you guys it is really easy to come by old swing set frames, with some chicken wire and a few panels of corregated metal you can make a chicken tractor easily.

Rebecca : That sounds like it would work for you really well, good idea too about turning out the young ones like that.

Al they are doing great love em in the process of dealing with a guy on a bator on craigslist here are the details that he has posted: I have sent him a email and waiting for him to email me back:

One set of Incubator with three shelves with automatic turner and humidity system and separate hatching cabinet so you can transfer the eggs over just before hatching and then reload the incubator and just keep the process going with no down time. Clean and Works great. Asking $400.

Wayne : Man Bummer on the chickens, this year it seems even the most prepared of us are getting hit hard by the Bast..ds.

Allen : I don't care what anybody says your Roosters look good enough to make us all want a ton of roosters just like those. You shore can grow em. Sharp birds very sharp.

Oh it was such a lovely day today. I hope everyone got out to enjoy it. It was a productive day here. Finished up the last kennel panel and reorganized the chicken yard. set up the chick area and now we have no chickens in the house, well at least until Wednesday when my order from Ideal comes in.

I really need to get pictures of my set up but it changes almost every week. Still need to get the other coop put up (which is actually a metal building I got on Freecycle) then the yard changes again. I am hoping to get power (not just an extention cord) ran out there but still need to wait til I have everything set up first. Just trying to get ready for the spring and restocking my chicken yard.
I am not sure I want to hatch eggs this year. Last year I had such a low hatch rate I am thinking I may just order chicks from a hatchery, buy them from auctions or my good BYC friends.

Last week I made a new brooder, still trying to figure out how to load pictures on here. The good thing about my brooders is that they are easy to make (if you have a sodering iron) and are total easy to clean and sanitize.
So here I sit waiting for my baby chickens to come.

They are supposed to be shipped tomorrow and I will get them Tuesday or Wednesday. I guess since those are Uli's days off I am not going to be able to sneak them in. Better come clean tomorrow.

City No I never got to set any of their eggs,Okcarla did manage to hatge out 5 or 6. Yes I think the pigeon disease came from the birds my friend gave me! I have not lost any I got from the bird shows. I am pretty sure now it is not PMV,but paratyphoid. At least the paratyphoid is cureable and preventable,if I can just get the meds delivered!

NNBreeder All I found was a bunch of feathers from a hen where it rubbed it against the ground, not enough for two hens and no roo feathers. Thats why I figured coyoties carried them off. Could have been coons I guess. But the way the chihuahuas were sniffing around I figured its either coyotyes or dogs.

Allen Did you see those Grey-games on eggbid? $1000 for a trio! Now that would be a Christmas present!lol

popping on here briefly to say I have the best husband evah... he is redoing my laundry room and making me a pantry for Christmas... tearing it up right now.. ok gotta go.. the previous owners did some scary crap to this house(how it passed house inspection I dont know)..

If the seller was a real estate seller, like ours was, she would have paid the guy off.... There's a story here, but it's too scary to tell. Just know that plumbers, foundation inspectors, septic tank inspectors, etc. have their price. Some of them come pretty cheap, as we discovered after we bought our place and found the notes the seller forgot to throw away.

So we just got home a while ago from the ballet. Went to dinner afterwards and then some shopping while we were in town, but yeah it is finally all done. Now I can rest some this week and get more done around here. The ballet was amazing and I got chills several times. The mice were soooo adorable and did so well.
Now I have lots to catch up on here I am sure. I am going to go and get a glass of wine and have a nice relaxing evening reading posts, researching whatever come to mind, and checking the hatching eggs. We still only have two so far, but I think I can hear more chirping. Maybe more by morning.
