It's not a bad idea. OEGB's have a natural line in the comb that you can see if you look close. If you ever dub one a little below this line you'll see that the comb actually come from the head in 2 halves, this natural line is where they come together to form the single comb. A fine tipped black sharpie pen works great, but even with a line to go by the single thing that will make it all go much easier is to have someone holding the head still. Trying to do it by yourself is tuff.

I ask, because my grandson has decided he wants to raise some red pyle oegb. I guess I'll start sorting thru breeders for him.

Good looking chickens. Your RIR's are about the same color as the pullets I bought from Atwoods this year. The RIR's that I hatched from Imogene (TatersChickens here on BYC) are much darker and seem to be growing faster, and look like they are going to be somewhat bigger.

must be the difference btw hatchery production type and show type (if TatersChickens are sq). SQ rir's are supposed to be very dark I think.

A farmer found a magical flute. Hoping to charm his flock of hens into laying more eggs he decided to play it for them. He told his wife his plan. The next day he got up early and played his flute for the hens all day, but at dark he had no more eggs than usual. Later, his wife asked if he'd had any success, the farmer... replied, "I sure did. It wasn't much of a day for egg laying , but it was a great day for music!"

Her first show will be the county 4-H show in feb. She'll still be showing as a cloverbud b/c she won't be 9 until march. We plan on attending more shows in our area after that. Don't know which ones though. I did just subscribe to the poultry press today to help locate a few.

Betsy, thank you for letting us know! I hope to be at this show... I have never made it before....
Do they have show catalogs? Would I need to contact Mr. Kenneth to get one?
