I remember being in 4th grade and the teachers doing the dye thing. They took a needle and syringe, and I think they put it in the air sac. Then they put a piece of tape over the hole. I think the reason its become so controversial is because it became a craze with people who didn't know what they were doing, and they were killing the chicks. But I don't see that having any relation to the fish dyeing...

Maybe if they just respected their rights and asked them if it was ok before they dyed them, we could settle this whole controversy.

So how difficult is it to get a chicken roo interested in guinea hens??

Good Afternoon everyone,
Welcome to our new BYC Okies and hi to all those who have been gone a while.
Well I went into town this morning to pick up my chicks from the post office. They actually came in yesterday afternoon but the post office called my cell phone instead of the house phone and of course I do not get a signal out where I live.

Anyway there was only one casualty, but when I got out the car so I could really look them over I found they did not send the right breed of chicks. Bad news I did not get the white cochin chicks I ordered and I have a bunch of white chicks (??? about what kind) they put in as filler. The good news they sent white silkies instead and are going to reship the white cochins when they ship my dark brahams and black silkies in a couple of weeks.

So I was reading about the dyed chicks which sound so cute, and I know this is going to be a stupid question but they do not stay that color do they? When they get their regular feathers in they come in the normal color, right?

I got a bunch of stuff done in the coop since Uli kicked me out of the house so he could put together my holiday present and wrap. Trying to get everything ready for the bad weather. It is starting to get cold out there. I really hope it doesn't snow so have refused to look at the weather to find out. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I hope everyone stays warm and safe in this weather.

I like how none of us are avid about watching TV. Its nice isn't it?

Hubby tried to justify the new one by calling it "our grown-up TV". I told him no, its just a man TV, but thanks for trying to include me. Lol

Hey Q I like your method of forecasting! Never misses that way! Hope you get the faveroles nestled in before the snow hits, Although they do have snow shoes on!

Well now we aren't for sure if we are traveling tomorrow or not. Sil and mil can't make up their minds! I think the sil has been around the Mil so long the dementia is rubbing off! Makes it hard on Dw when the sibling can't make a resposinle decision.

Don't wish me far away Faeir! If I was close I would only let you have them if I thought it wouldn't be enabling! (yeah right!lol)They are pretty tho. They aren't as speckeled as they should be but are a beautiful reddish/yellow and white.And of course they have the feathered feet and beards and era muffs. How are your new silkies doing? You are going to like them. They are neat birds.

Al asked about these little guys a few days ago and I promised updated photos, so these are for you Al. Remember the 3 Law Grey chicks?

Well, here's what they look like now.

Sorry, this last one is a little fuzzy. Pretty sure this is a roo, he moves like one and has little spurs coming in!!

While I was out there with the camera I took a few shots of my RIR's from Imogene (TatersChickens on BYC). Dark little guys eh??

As long as I'm at it I thought I'd snap a photo of whats in the brooder. The big buffs are from Amos and the 3 buff hens, the little guys are Blue & Black Breasted Red OEGB's.
