Well, I'm about 23 birds lighter (and so is my feed bill) after this weekend. I have nineteen chickens and four more turkeys in my freezer. Well, 17 chickens now, since we have already eaten two of them, a Dark Cornish and a RIR rooster, both a little over 20 weeks old. They were both incredibly delicious, but the Cornish was more tender and had the nicest texture to it.
We are now officially down to one breed of turkey... Bourbon Reds. In the freezer we have two Royal Palm turkeys (turkeys? about the size of two very large chickens?), a Narraganset, and a Bourbon Red who had hurt his leg and wasn't getting any better. Now I will be able to do my own taste test!
Tonight is my late night. The City in its infinite wisdom decided about two years ago a library staying open until 9:00 at night on Christmas Eve was a fantastic idea, even though we have yet to have anyone darken our doors after 5 the past two years except a couple of homeless people looking for a bathroom.
I refuse to make my staff work it, so I will be running the place by myself. Then I will get to drive home on what are sure to be icy roads at that later hour (they don't believe in closing the library during hazardous conditions, either).
So, Merry Christmas Eve everybody!
Oh, and even if nobody else wants to play, I'm going to play by myself...
