And here are some Gov. sites that often have things that can be used for pen material and covers and such. Half tents make good windbreaks and the insect netting makes good shade cloth. If one were to put a bunch of the camo. netting support poles together you would have instant posts for the pens too.

Good day fellow Okies, I am so far behind on the thread and started reading last night trying to catch back up. I woke up with my laptop on my chest and was on the last post of that page. Decided I should put the computer to bed for the night so that I didn't drop it as I fell back to sleep, LOL. Woke up today, had some cinnamon rolls DH made for breakfast and have been back to reading while DH and DD play with the new Wii and figuring out their games and such. Still am not caught up, but you guys are cracking me up and thought I should let you know.

Cammie, if you bought your microwave just a few months ago maybe you should try taking it back.

Betsy, I hope your new baby is feeling better or you have figured out what is wrong and you are on your way to fixing her back up.

Teach, I also played in band and went to band camp. I always had a blast, especially in Jazz band as I would go in there and would switch instruments each day with somebody new. Oh, I played percussion. The instructor would come in and close to the end of the week he finally realized I was never on the same instrument and he finally asked me. 'So what instrument do you really play?', hehehehe. Those were the days. In the Orchestra, I played the Viola.

About the Soda controversial topics, I don't like ANY soda never have. I think they are all gross and prefer to drink water or milk, unless you load it with lots of rum where I can't taste the soda. If I was forced to drink one it would probably be Root Beer and the second choice would be Dr. Pepper. Although, I would prefer to have my Root Beer with lots of Ice Cream. Otherwise, I really do not like soda and would be fine if they were banned for any further consumption. LOL I probably shouldn't get on my soap box about this topic, because I have lots to say and I may upset some people about how bad soda really is for you and the diseases it can cause. I did a research paper last year on the topic.

I just realized today is the day that was suppose to be the Blanchard auction, and I think it is pretty safe to say I will not be there. I am staying right here in my warm house, may get bundled up to go and do some more sledding on our huge hill back behind our property. I suppose I will have to catch the next one.

Our eggs hatched during the last couple of days, we have 26 that made it.

Most of them are black and are probably crosses between Silkies x Cochins. Two of them are D'Uccles and a few of them may also be D'Uccle x Silkie crosses. My DH even got eggcited about all the hatching and has taken a liking to the two D'Uccles. He hasn't even said a word about me setting up the brooder in the Dining room, and I catch him several times a day going over and checking them out and laughing at them. They are so cute! Thank you Betsy!

Our new chickens have yet to lay any eggs, but one of our pigeons has laid two eggs. Although the second egg was a soft shelled one. Her and her mate are taking turns sitting on the good egg. We will see what happens!

Well, I think that brings me up to date of our last week or so, but I still have lots to read on here about all of you guys. I may have to take a break and play some Wii with the family though and come back to you guys. I hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas! Oh, by the way I am really sorry for all of you who really do not like snow, but I couldn't keep myself for wishing for a white Christmas. I LOVE the SNOW! It is so beautiful! Something about the pureness of it all and I just have so much fun playing in it. My daddy says that when I always put my mind to something I could make anything happen, LOL. Even on my wedding day, it was an outdoor wedding in the park. It started raining, we had no alt plan for rain. Everybody was asking what we were going to do if it rained I told them to hush, it was not going to rain on my wedding. My dad was telling others back home in WI just about the same thing. There are no alt plans if it rains, besides it won't rain on Katie's wedding she would not allow it to.

There was no plans for rain in the forecast for our wedding day leading up to the day. Well, the night before my wedding when passing out the tuxedos, they realized one tuxedo was missing, even though the tuxedo shop had assured my husband all of them had been picked up (my father picked up most, but a couple weren't ready and my DH had to go back and get the last of them). It was a Saturday evening and the Tuxedo shop was already closed, and they would not be open on Sunday they day of our wedding. That tuxedo that was missing was my DH's. I was so upset I cried almost all night. We even talked to some police officers for them to try and get a hold of the Tuxedo shop, with no luck. I left several messages on their message boards and answering services for their home offices, but nobody called back. The next morning, it was pouring cats and dogs. I had cried in a storm, LOL. We were watching the weather and the whole state of Oklahoma was being stormed upon, except this little tiny circle, the eye of the storm. I sat there and said over and over let that circle be over the park during the wedding. Later that day, still pouring everywhere we had our wedding and sure enough, we didn't have a drop of rain on us during the whole ceremony or while we took pictures for over an hour and a half. It turned out to be more beautiful than I had imagined it to be. With all of the rain clouds and the glow that the rain had left, we had some of the most beautiful pictures. Oh, and the Tuxedo. I found out that the Tuxedo shop in Dallas where we originally did Larry's sizing opened at noon on Sundays there. I called them as soon as they opened and they got a hold of the manager in Tulsa and we had our Tuxedo 30 minutes before the wedding, whew it was a close call. The only other problem that happened, which was really funny. My ordained priest (whom was one of our best friends) had forgotten the vows and such at home. I hear all of my bridesmaids all grouped up talking about something and trying to figure out how they are going to tell me, discussing that I am going to be outraged. I over hear them, and I start freaking out because I cannot even imagine what they are talking about and they weren't telling me. Finally, my Matrid of Honor comes over to tell me (whom is the sister of the priest) that the vows were forgotten at home. I started laughing (they probably thought I was going hysterical at that point), I don't care about that, tell him to just talk from the heart he knows us and he can do it. That was what I wanted the whole time anyways. So in the end, I got everything I wanted and had the most beautiful wedding, more beautiful than I had ever imagined!

Now that I have written a book. I think I am going to play some wii now. LOL

Al and Q...did you have a good Christmas?

You all seem to be faring better than we are on our casualties. We lost 10 teenagers, 10 young ducks, and 3 layers that couldn't get in the hen house...they were out in the field and DH didn't see them. I guess it will teach them to not stay out after dark....LOL

Anyway, it's been a very big learning lesson for us. I was so sad when I found the dead ones...sure made me miss my mom...she would have told us we didn't have them buttoned down well enough for this weather. I guess we're going through the school of hard knocks on this one.

Q...when this mess is over if you are still interested in my cochins we're going to sell them. We've made a mistake by not getting rid of some of our flock....we just don't have the facilities here at our current house to properly house them. We've held off so we can build at our new place. But the addiction took over common sense and we bought more.

So, we may be getting rid of some more...we'll evaluate in better weather.

Got to go fix my grandson something to eat. He's at my feet begging and he's just so darn cute. LOL

Donna aside from being in a garage or barn I don't know if you could have gotten them buttoned up enough for that last storm. I saw snow get into places that I have never even seen get wet during the spring storms and the horizontal rains.

It even blew snow into the shop where I work. Forced it under the tin and through the ridge vent.

Donna : I am really so sorry about your losing those Chickens, a terrible thing to happen this time of year. Makes a guy want to load up truck & trailer and head to Claremore to strap on a tool belt and get busy helping to build you a set up you & Richard would be like. Good to see you had a Christmas. I thought I was doing big things when I installed Sofit vents on the walls of my breeding pens for relief from the summer heat, then the snow blew in through them some decent drifts inside the enclosed pens LOL pretty funny when you think about it. I didn't have any casualties so thats good, But there are some decent sized drifts all over the Coop/condo area.
