I sound like a broken record...check for worms... they deplete the system and cause immunity issues.... I have had the same problems...they will eventually be paralyzed to death...If ya haven't wormed try that! Especially if there is no immediate evidence of flock virulent flock virus wheich Marek's is suppposed to be

One thing to remember, if it is mereks, it isn't always fatal, they can recover in some cases. But, like others have said, there are other illnesses- here is a thread that might help - i lost a silkie not sure to what, but the general consensus was botulism, he was getting better then developed respiratory problems- but there is alot of info on the thread

I agree for the most part. But the key words are "most of us". Most of us don't have to worry about stalkers and / or having our kids taken and held for ransom. It's no secret that he is worth millions of bucks and some people will try whatever they can think of to get their hands on some of it. If I was Garth Brooks I'd have a wall and moat around my house. I hate him, but I understand him.

Ok guys and gals I am going to start my first incubation tonight just to verify and make sure that I have my thoughts lined out, Humidity through day 18 35-40%? And temp with no fan in incubator between 100 and 102? or 99.5 and 101? just wanting to make sure I have everything setting right now all I have to do is put the eggs in and waalaa I am on my way lol now to go and try to catch up with the posts!!!

What's up with all the bad man jokes today? Lol

Buster - Your nephew must be one of those youngsters that doesn't understand good old black and white movies. Lol. We watched 'Its a Wonderful Life' in the new color release; I prefer it black and white.

Henney - The Chicken Hunter report gave me a good laugh.

Grace - How did your birds hold up through the blizzard? I know you had some troubles earlier this winter, hope they all got smart and stayed in the coop!

bethinoklahoma - I hope your chicken incident turns out to be just that and not an epidemic.

Q - Good luck witht he hatch! Is this your first one ever??

We lost power today! Its dry and sunny and NOW the power decides to go out! It was only for about an hour though, and thankfully living in town we still have hot and cold water without the power. Hope everyone else has got electricity and warmth!

Man everybody is quiet tonight, I actually caught up on posts. Ya'll need to chat it up!

Q, if you where asking opinions on humidity and temp ill tell ya what I do. I dont worry about humidity to much (55%+) I typicaly run around it 30-40%. I just put some water in and if its in that ball park I let it go.The only time I worry about humidity is at the hatch as I dont want any babies drying in the shell and getting stuck. Best way to avoid that is NOT opening that bator (during hatch) wich I find hard to do at times. Ill get the humidity around 50% (for hatching day 18) or a little more and when the chicks start hatching it will shooooot way up on its own. So as long as my humidity is 30-50% during incubation I dont worry, i only add water if its below 30%. If adding water doesnt work take a clean sock, soak it in hot water and toss it in the bator. I dont think there is a magic number but I dont let it go below 30. Ive had some great hatches when i fussed and cussed and worried about humidity and ive had just as great of hatches as when I let it do its own thing and just let it go. Many times ive had chicks hatching in my cabinet bator and the humidity only runs around 30-40% in there and they hatched without getting stuck . On your temp mine usualy run around 100.5 ive had them average 102 and didnt seem to make a difrence, higher than that and id get worried though. I like the temp right around 100-101 that way i feel like I can be off a degree either way and still be ok if the themometer is off.
